If they are obviously struggling, I will just jump in. But if they are disabled, blind, in a wheelchair or using a walker, I will ask first. The disabled are usually quite capable, and I don't want to intrude without asking.

I usually ask first, but it depends on what they are struggling with. If someone is about to drop an armful of packages, or if the person is about to injure himself or someone else, I might rush to help them. If they seem to be struggling with a task (at work for example) I will ask first. Sometimes when you assume, the other person may find this as a sign that you believe them to be weak or incompetent. I tend to look at this as the same as giving unwanted advice. No one likes to be told what to do, so I tend to ask if they are looking for advice. The same sometimes holds true with offering help.

I always ask first, because some people 1) Don't want help 2) Don't need help 3) Have a specific way of doing whatever they are doing and if I barge in I may do it wrong. So, I ask. No harm, no foul.

I will start helping them while asking if they need it. Some people will say they dont even though they could use the help, so I usually do them the favor of giving the helping hand first.

Always ask for a helping hand first, you do not want to infringe on someones privacy. Because some people may take it seriously, thinking that they can take care of themselves no matter what the situation is. You would want to help, but "maybe" they would ask for help themselves.

I drive on the road a lot. If somebody is in trouble I will stop but if they have help or everything is under control I will not get involved. If you are referring to family members I will help but it depends who and how much. Some people feed off of sympathy and sometimes they have more than you.

That depends on what it was you where doing if it was dropping items, Well i would just jump in and help you, But if you where looking for some thing i would ask if you wanted help. I would always like to think some one would offer it to me out , if i needed it.

no, I usually just stand back and watch them struggle for a quick laugh. If they don't ask, I don't offer unless they look like they'll really appreciate the help. Some people will shoo you away if you try to help even if they need it.

I ask if they need/want my help before I just jump in....sometimes, even if they are struggling, some people are to proud and/or stubborn to accept help and some people get mean about it if you try to help when they don't want it...

Hmmmmmmmm...
It depends on what way they are struggling for help?

coz,
If they are in need of physical help I would give my hand to lift them from it without asking them.
If they are in need of other sort of help (like finiancial, etc.,) I would ask them first whether they need me. Coz without knowing their need we cant help them straight away.
