No. It is archaic. Discipline needs to be in place but causing physical harm does no one any good in the long run. Two wrongs don't make a right.

It sounds really good to say that it shouldn't because violence teaches violence but if you look at the conditions in our schools now as opposed to when there was corporal punishment you'll see that statement doesn't hold water. The theory is nice but is off the mark in application.
The real effect of corporal punishment is that a student learns that they can be subjected to the pain and indignity of corporal punishment and are given the option of avoiding it. It teaches the person to make choices and to take responsibility for their actions, something that is missing in today's educational system.
In large part I blame the parents for the lack of discipline in the schools though. They will not tech their children right from wrong, they over indulge them then send them to school expecting the schools to raise them. When they schools try to enforce any form of discipline the parents fight it. The teachers and schools are in a no win situation and the result is poorly educated children who have no concept of honest effort or self discipline.

Yes! Im 13 and totally agree it should be brought back! My school is the only one thats has it in the county but the students here are well behaved. Kids are completely scared of geting the board so they behave! All the people who said no i think they are wrong! My entire family uses spanking and many times people come up to my parents in the mall and places like that saying how well behaved we are!
However ther is a differance between punishment and abuse.
ohh.. and in schools a parent must sign for a student to be spanked..well actually if you dont bring the paper back you stilll can get it.

No.
Corporal punishment is not necessary in a professional education setting if the teacher, principal, and parent are on the same page.
If a teacher (or principal) has to exert authority by using the threat of a paddling, he or she has already lost the opportunity to create and maintain a learning environment.
My own personal experience with corporal punishment included being paddled for answering a question without raising my hand first...how many times do you think I cared to answer ANY questions after that?

In some states, I think that corporal punishment is still legally allowed. However, no one wants to use it because of fear of controversy. Parents might try to sue.
I think that parents should be the ones to decide. After all, do they want the schools to add violence to their curriculum? If the parents do want corporal punishment, they can just deal out their own punishment at home. Personally, kids will live in fear. Fear is bad.

i do, because the kids these days know that no one can really punish them. they use that against the teachers. im in high school and my mom is an elementary teacher. the kids have all the power. all this junk about teaching violence is crap. people in earlier generations had corporal punishment, and look how they turned out. the problem people have with it is that they don't see the difference in spanking a child and beating a child. there's a big difference. a spanking doesn't necessarily have to hurt, but it needs to have a psychological effect on the child. if the child knows that there will be no consequences to their actions, what stops them from doing anything?

Our school has a waiver you can sign, which I did. The only thing I ask is that I be notified FIRST. I would like to be present. I don't think that is too much to ask. Otherwise, I think it would be very appropriate for corporal punishment.

Yes.
Because Mom is such a s l u t that she didn't even bother to move in with Dad when she was 13 and got pregnant. No one disciplines the child as a result, no one is consistent, no one provides structure, no one teaches the kid restraint, morality, or even good manners.
The teachers should be able to flog the crap out of the little scrappers. Goodness knows, they will get no constructive correction anywhere else.
*********************************************
Of course, not all Moms meet the above description. Many Moms did indeed wait until they were in their 20s to have a kid/s, and did marry the Father first. But a helluvalot did not, and they care so little for their kids that they are raising them to be JUNK YARD DOGS.

I do....i think that if kids got the punishment that we used to get when i was coming up they would be a whole lot better. however, it's up to the parents to decide what goes on at home and teach their kids right from wrong. and the teachers should do thier jobs in teaching the kids, not showing favortism or even judging them.
