I'm writing a speech about todays thought about "all men are created equal" and need to know like how it is today and back in 1776. It's a 6 minute speech and I need more depth in it. Would anyone be will to give an opinions or ideas? Thank you.

Things are much better now as opposed to 1776 - naturally - but as long as racism continues to exist - and it will - our society will never be equal for all men/women. Things sometimes look better on the outside, but inside they are still as they were back in 1776. If that makes since to you?

Today, the hope is that we really do treat every person equally. It means that regardless of money, education, or social standing, everyone should be afforded the same rights and opportunities just for being fellow human beings, without favoritism being awarded to one group over another. The difference in 1776 was that when they said men, what they actually meant was all white men. It mostly had to do with religious persecution more than anything else. Check out the 3/5 law on the net and anything to do with slavery to support that arguement and check out affirmative action for references to today. Take it from me, this is the stuff teachers love, my work was chosen to appear in my college paper 4 times and my answer to one of the essays for a test in high school is now published as an example for a state test!!

The intent was that who they considered men were all equal. That definition excluded women and slaves. It is a reflection of the society during that time frame. A slave or serf could not possibly be the same as a landholder and women were possessions.

Since then the laws and the intent has changed. Now the law does not allow slavery and the intent is for all people to be equals. It still isn't true as wealth or friends can make you more equal than others. The focus has changed along with the intent but not in the same way.

the way i looked at it, not all men are created equal. since the beginning of time. why? some are born rich while some are born poor, hungry and they came from parents who are slaves. that's what happened in 1776. if men are created equal, there would be no wars because we treat each other are brothers.last christmas, a few people are celebrating with lots of food on the table while a lot of people around the world are hungry.

Straight men will call some men handsome if they fit societies definition of the ideal male physique.But you have to realize that men dont think men are the better looking than women by any stretch like women think women idealize beauty. Women often say finding a member of the same sex aesthetically pleasant doesn’t make them gay, and this is true. As a matter of fact, I believe anyone who hates his/her sex enough to consider his/her gender’s physique intrinsically ugly has issues. BUT, the archetypical woman doesn’t stop there, she also says “women are more attractive than men” and this time things are very different. When comparing men to women, they are judging a symbol (“beauty”) within a dichotomous layout; it has nothing to do with finding one’s sex aesthetically pleasant or not (a case we already exposed), this time it is about a “built in” (but moderated by society) bigotry which will render one sex’s physical characteristics more attractive than the other’s. This case obviously involves sexual orientation since the objects will be evaluated based on sexual attributes; and since both sexes are not equal, the result cannot be anything but a Boolean (either male characteristics render the male sex better looking or female characteristics render women better looking, someone who says they are equally beautiful is lying since we start from the basis of considering both sexes visually different and someone who says they are different is simply eluding the comparison while stating the obvious). Most women are lesbian (they find the female body more aesthetically pleasant , they prefer to look at women, etc.) leaning bisexuals (they look for providers, see sex as a job, etc) by nature; I don't get why people are so reluctant to accept this fact. I mean, it's hardly a revelation.

Those words are in the Declaration of Independance, not in any legally binding US document. The forefathers meant it in a way disparging the king of England, not as a means of declaring equality for everyone. Note that they did not include such language in the articles of confederation or the US Constitution.

While many were troubled by the words and their meaning as far as slavery, they did not want to face up to the unpleasant fight that would come from trying to do away with slavery and many other anti-minority laws (including religious issues). So they left the status quo and hoped it would work itself out. It took the US Civil War and then 100 years of Jim Crow laws for that issue to somewhat work itself out.

as far as life seems to go we are not all created equal . more and more we see evidence that many problems a person has are as a result of genitics things that happen to the person before they were even born. a person born with out an arm is that equal ? i have heard of people born without one of there arms and i have not heard any show proof that the person was given extra abilites in some other area of life.
the question remains are we all born equal. we are all born human . God has made it clear we are not to judge each other
God made it clear that no person would have a burden greater then they can bear. God made it clear we are to love one another and to look after each other friends and enimies the same
some how in the end i think we will find that we have got some very mixed up ways of thinking who has more and who has less.
we look at someone who has a rolls royce and a mansion and say that person has it easy and great.
we look at someone who has one less arm and we think that person has it tough.
i think that in the end we will find that both have had it in a messure that is fit perfectly for them none were given more then they could bear and none were given less then they could bear.
i think this is what we will find in the end is eqaulity of gifts.
i think in the end we will see that no less love was made availible to one person then the other. none of us are less loved and none of us are of less worth. are not two sparrows sold for a penny.
are not we worth much more then many sparrows. .

well if you look at the quote in the context of the declaration.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

is the line all man created equal more of a reference to what they endowed by their Creator. that all man should be given the chance for life , liberty and the pursuit of happiness? that each person should have the equal right to chase their happiness and that their life and liberty could not be taken away without due process. that all man are also created equal before their Creator.

As a wrestling coach of 10 years, there is one truth that I have learned: That all men are NOT created equal. So physically, and genetically, the statement is false. However, for LEGAL purposes, it is a guideline that American Government officials, whether they are, lawmakers, enforcers, or judges, SHOULD follow (although many times in American history this guideline was ignored).

You'll hear a lot of rambling hate stuff that isn't going to be helpful. I think you should google the "meaning of the declaration of independence" or "meaning of all men are created equal", rather than reading some stuff that is blatantly anti-american and uneducated that you'll get here.
