Homosexuality was listed as a mental disorder on the American Psychological Association list of mental diseases (DSM) until about 1973 when they removed it from the list due to enormous pressure (and terror, see above about them crashing the APA conferences etc.) from gay groups.
The World Health Organization didn't remove homosexuality from its mental disorder list until 1992!
(the British and Chinese removed them even later, 1994 and 2001 respectively)

I see the few people who do believe this have chosen to make stupid and bigotted remarks instead of answering the question. Like most bigotry, those who claim homosexuality is a sickness are mostly driven by fear, ignorance, and sadly by religion.
Homosexuality is just as normal as being left-handed. It's morally neutral, like all sexuality, and can be expressed in ways that are positive or negative, just like heterosexuality. Ironically, those who wail the loudest about homosexuals being immoral and promiscuous are the first to try to refuse them the right to commit to each other in marriage.
It will interesting to see an anwer that is rational that actually believes such nonsense.

Homosexuality is not a disease.
All major mental health organizations, (including the American Psychological Association) have stated that homosexuality is not a mental disorder.
Some people who study human sexuality believe that sexuality is a result of genetics, social or individual factors, alone or in combination.

Most people who are against those who happen to be homosexual say that it is a choice, but many scientific studies have increasingly shown that it is not a choice but is genetic in nature. Although these studies show that it is not a choice, some gay people are apprehensive about these studies since those who dislike gay people could view homosexuality as something that should be 'corrected' and 'prevented' along with genes that prevent disease. Once those who dislike gay people realize that it is not a choice, they will find another excuse to support their personal hatred and that reason could be them viewing homosexuality as something that should be genetically prevented from occurring.

Homosexuality IS NOT any type of physical or mental disease. The resolved fact is that it is considered to be a life condition one is born with. Many are born heterosexual, many are born homosexual. The same is true for transsexuals. We all have different hormone balances, and that's what makes us all unique.
Homosexuality and transsexuality have been removed from the DSM because they are no longer considered to be mental disorders.

If it's a disease, why haven't I caught it yet? I used to get hit on a lot by both sexes and was never moved by my own. It doesn't bug me, but doesn't interest me. People are born that way. With rampant drug use, violence and materialism and Bush the warmongerer around, I don't spend much time worrying about gay people.

those who think it is a disease can't give a legitimate reason. they "use" biblical text out of context. they use lies, assumptions and generalizing stereotypes. they claim we're sick, perverted or immoral, when hatred and intolerance are what are what's immoral. they just can't admit that their problem is that they fear anything/anyone who is different. they're gullible enough to believe all the lies, but can't be bothered with learning the truth. they pass blanket judgment upon an entire group of people without actually knowing any of us. fear and ignorance are dangerous things.
who we are is just genetic. none of us "choose" to be gay/straight/bi. nothing causes us to "turn" gay. it's just who we are.

That's the most... that's silly and ignorants. Like when they used to drill holes in people's heads to relieve retardation and headaches. Trephaning. I have christian friends who put it like this... " love the sinner, hate the sin... Jesus doens't place one sin over another..." he's a commi.

No, I don't think it is a disease; but I have read that some species of animals turn asexual when their society is overpopulated. I have also read that some species of animals are thought to be headed toward extinction when they become predominately asexual.............it makes you think.........
