plug in your iPod first then open iTunes

go here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716 its on the apple sit and go to support on the top tool bar it will help you a lot it has many times for me if it does not help got to apple and then the support on the tool bar you should be able to find an answer other wise e-mail apple support
