It is really up to the parent. It is also a cultural thing like one of the poster's said above me...some people may find the idea cruel and unusual where as others find it the norm and do it before the baby even leaves the hospital. Like for instance in a lot of places newborn babies sleep with the mother and they think the idea of Western Women putting their infant in a crib is strange. Or how people have completely different views on male infant circumcision.
I would try to find a pediatrician's office that would do it just to insure it is done correctly and the risk of infection would be cut.
Personally I have very sensitive ears, even the sensitive jewelry hurts after a while and I hate sleeping in them so I would imagine a baby wouldn't really like it either..but that is just me.

I agree with several posters on here. Wait until she's old enough to decide for herself. Two reasons...
1. She will have to live with your decision for the rest of her life. It is her body, so give her the choice.
2. For safety's sake. Baby earrings are VERY tiny and do come apart. Babies love to play with fingers, toes, hair, and ears...don't take a chance on her pulling it out and popping it in her mouth.
If you do decide to pierce her ears at a young age, at least wait until she's past putting everything into her mouth, about three years old. That way if it comes out she's more likely to bring it to you rather than swallow it. As far as younger is better, I disagree. Pain is pain whether you're one or one hundred years old.
Blessings...

Whenever you choose. Babies cry A LOT less than older kids and it is easier to care for them. Some doctors offices pierce babys ears. I had my daughters done at about 3 or 4 months old. Partially to avoid her punching holes in her lobes with a needle like I did, and many of my friends too. Also, she never had much hair and didn't like headbands, so it helped her look like a little girl.

i agree with the above answer it should be left to the girl when she is old enough , but if u feel that u need to get them done there are places that do them at 6 weeks to 6 months starting age , the earlier the better age wise , so the baby wont mess with them , the backs do come off and babies will pulll and tug at there ears , so ask around ask a good repital jewler that offers these services ( ear piercing , ) rember u will have to make sure they stay clean etc

I think 3 months is good, depending on how your family feels about it. This way, it's before she starts teething, so she won't be pulling on them. I got my daughter's done at that age, and she is now almost 6, and decided she did not want them in anymore, so we took them out. Almost every girl "wants" their ears pierced nowadays, so what's the point of waiting until she asks for them?

Although earrings may look cute on your baby girl, it is best to hold off on piercing her ears until she has finished teething. Babies often ache and become irritated, which may lead to them pulling on their ears. They can cause their ears to become infected, pull the earing out, or put the earring in their mouths. 1 1/2 should be a good time to pierce a child's ears because you can talk to your daughter, and she'll understand a little better.

I'd wait until she's older and asks to get it done. Many of my friends who had their ears pierced as infants do not have the holes centered in their earlobes anymore - I'm assuming this is because the ears grow and then the hole is no longer in the middle. So, I'd definately wait. Maybe around 7 or 8 if she shows interest.

I don't know what is appropriate... it must depend on the family. But in hispanic cultures (I live in Central America), baby girls get their ears pierced before leaving the hospital.
