I think it is dead. I suppose most of the punk bands are amateurish and derivative of the good ones. I mean Green Day sound good, but their song Wake Me Up When September Ends gets radio play alongside easy listening rock music. Strictly speaking, punk rock lasted a few months in the late seventies (the sex-pistols era). You might be able to shape an argument that punk rock lasted through the eighties and broke in the early nineties thanks to the success of the nirvana never mind record, but it isn't a great argument since the top selling so-called punk bands in the years to follow were so frequently terrible. It is a much easier argument to mention the pistols and to speak of the death of Sid Vicious and to talk about the socioeconomic struggles associated with the scene and turn the page on it all.

who is everyone to say punk rock is dead do you own it or something things change over time like old rap music and new listen to the diferince a big one and now people are have a hard time excepting that the new punk is = emo they just gave it a new name
Punk rock is being different even if the generation dosent like it and starts calling you a name that makes no sense. People are just stuck in the past and expect tings to be exactly the same other wise it not good and ****. Just because thing are made fun of does not mean people should give up hope be your own be origional.

The D4 were good, the Forty Fives are still around, while Boss Hog and Jon Spencer's Blues Explosion have some good punk songs.

I love Anti-flag and the Sex Pistols. It seems the emo trend has taken over music though, sort of canceling out good music. :/

Punk rock died in the 1970's
Anything that was called "punk rock" afterwards was just cheap imitation.
