American family considering moving to Sweden. Is it a pleasant place to live? Good for families? What form of government? Cost of living high or low?

Please, no Wikipedia.

I´m an Australian living in Sweden.

- Sweden is very good place to live with a family. Daycare / school etc are funded by the state so it is very cheap and of a high standard. Children are also provided with meals at school.

-Sweden´s government is socialist, so tax is very high but living standards are also high. Health care (very cheap or free), roads, public transport, education and unemployment benifets are amoungst the best in the world.

-Cost of living is quite high due to high taxes (see above) Almost all families rely on two incomes. Payed maturnity leave does help a little.

-Almost everyone speaks English and Swedish courses are provided free by the state. Most schools are very accomedating to foreign students.

-Swedes are generally quiet people who keep to themselves but are very friendly when you get to know them

-Above all it is a very beautiful place to live.

Hope this helps you

It's very pleasent to live here according to me and I do think that it's a good place for families to live in. We've got a king, but he doesn't set any laws or something, that's the prime ministers job. Our current prime minister is Fredrik Reinfeldt. the taxes in Sweden is, what I understand, pretty high. But it's worth it. The stupid Fredrik reinfeldt is going to set lower taxes as a law though. We've got great schools. I word of advice: If you're moving to Sweden then move to north or at least the middle of Sweden. We've always had snow up here, this christmas too, though it was close that we didn't get any snow. But down there(I mean around Stockholm and so) they haven't got any snow at all. Bye!
