My husband and I are TTC and I am currently taking Coumadin. Coumadin can cause birth defects, but my OB feels that I can continue to take it until I KNOW I am pregnant, and then switch to the safer drug, Lovenox. I have heard of other docs saying that a woman should start Lovenox even while TTC. Have any of you experienced this? How did your doc handle it? And how did it go for you?

I used to work for a hematologist who had women on coumadin who were trying to conceive. He did the same thing, switched them to lovenox after they became pregnant. I'm not an M.D. and don't quite know the rationale, but I can tell you anecdotally that the 2 women I remember who got pregnant on coumadin had normal and healthy babies. Good luck to you!

Hmm, sounds risky. Myself, I'd rather switch over the to safer drug first, otherwise the fetus will have some exposure to a drug that causes birth defects.

If it were me I would probably make the switch while TTC. I stopped all face products while TTC because I am playing it safe. No more products with retinal or re nova.
