It depends on what you consider good weather. Do you like extreme heat? That's the end of September, beginning of October, our Indian Summer.
Do you want mild days? Not too much heat but beautiful sunshine afternoons) That's end of May beginning of June.
Or do you like those cold crisp days where it isn't raining but it's very nippy out? That's February.
I was born and raised here and love San Francisco but I will admit the worst time to visit is the month of January. It's very cold and we see alot of rain.

California is a nice place to live although it can be expensive. The weather is nice but depending on the area it can be quite hot in the summer. It does snow but mostly on the mountains; which you can get to within a couple of hours. That is one of the perks of living in California (southern); beaches, deserts and mountains are within a few hours drive. People are generally nice but no matter where you live in this country there are always going to be people who are rude, have attitudes and are racist (see post by Annie). Just as an aside; California was once a part of Mexico, so to say that Mexicans came to California in the 80's and ruined it is incorrect. We've always been here. I would recommend living close to the beach if you have the money to do so. One bad thing about living here is definitely traffic, especially on Fridays and the smog. We also have earthquakes which can be quite scary if not used to them. I have lived here my entire life and would never leave, except to move to Hawaii. Talk about expensive. Definitely worth it though. Good luck with your decision.

Late September and early October have the warmest weather (80s- 90s) with sunniest skies, perfect for beaches, although these beaches are very overcrowded because everybody has waited all year to get to them. I also find there is a couple weeks in March that the weather is like this as well.

September or October. That is when there is the least fog, and usually the warmest.
