In August 2003, Saddam's daughters Raghad and Rana received sanctuary in Amman, Jordan, where they are currently staying with their nine children. That month, they spoke with CNN and the Arab satellite station Al-Arabiya in Amman. When asked about her father, Raghad told CNN, "He was a very good father, loving, has a big heart." Asked if she wanted to give a message to her father, she said: "I love you and I miss you." Her sister Rana also remarked, "He had so many feelings and he was very tender with all of us."[

well he may of been a family guy but when you gas your enemy (kurds and Iran forces) and then stage a near genocide on other sections in your own country you get the bad guy outcome. Plus lets not forget he will (and has) kill his own family members on a whim.
His biggest mistake was taking Kuwait by force. He developed a bully image and thus it was this image that kept him in power for so long. If he let the inspectors inspect and they report they acutally didn't find anything another country would move in (porbably Iran) and remove him from power. But he kept on defying the inspectors and thus that is what led to his demise.

Saddam was a hero of his own making. His early years in the Baath party were spent as a thug and assassin. His time in power was spent controlling every aspect of the Iraqis' lives. The worst trait Saddam had was his willingness to have his people suffer at the hands of the world while he lived at the top. During the U.N. sanctions, baby incubators were not allowed into the country; Saddam could have cared less.
Saddam wanted his own inner circle to believe he had stashes of chemical and biological weapons when he didn't. Although the U.S. invaded on the flimsiest evidence of WMD's, Saddam was to worried about losing power than protecting his nation from a brutal invasion.

Saddam Hussain became extra helpful than our Indian Leaders, who had the heart to state that he had ordered killing those a hundred and forty Shias. Our leaders do all such issues yet deny to have even the certainty of it. those leaders in India are ingesting away the full united states, like termites, and are responsibnle for poverty, suicides, starvation, crimes and looting the Exchequer.

He also had his daughters husbands executed.Don't know if the two you mentioned were the ones, but if they were, they were probably afraid to say anything other than that or meet the same fate as their husbands.
At the beginning of his control,he was a decent guy, helped his people, built schools and hospitals, but that quickly changed.
A persons bad childhood does not give them the right to do the things he did to his people.

Well, he had women raped, children raped, people publicly murdered and tortured for saying a word against him, and ruled the scared people of his "sanctum' with a ****** up mentality.
The dude was a sociopath,a sadistic creaton, and a all around asshole.
Lots of people have lost those dear to each other, but they aren't getting a bunch of minions together to kill people who don't agree with them. Hitler had an abusive father, but do people see that **** as a hero? Nope.
Bush is an asshole too,but he isn't having his goonies rape little kids.
But whatevs, you have your own opinion.

Every person in the world has experienced loss & tragedy. No one is exempt from pain or misery. He had a bad upbringing, boo hoo. No person can use the abuse excuse to be an a** as an adult. Sorry. He was (past tense, he's dead) a bad person because he commited murder and genocide. He ruled by fear and the only reason he was ever considered a hero by some is because they feared to say a word against him.

Saddam was an brutal dictator because that's all the primitive Iraqis understand: brute force. They don't respect niceties or pleasantries.
The rest of Saddam's life is immaterial.

Like mik said, he killed, raped and tortured... a bajillion people.
I know that's not a real number, but he killed a lot of people, he's kind of like the Hitler of our time, but he's not looking to "purify" the world by killing lots of people.
