It's funny people are complaing about their money going to pay for medical help when their tax money already goes for other stupid things. Like filling up the tanks of rich goverment workers. How about we get rid of the stupid tax uses and use that money to do something worth while?
I've heard a lot of complaints about socialized medicine. Understandable, it's flawed and needs work. The system we have now is flawed too. I know there are people who would willingly wait 5 hours to get any help they could. I've been without health care and it's scary. There were a few times I seriously needed to go but I could not afford it.
A few comments seem to think people are lazy. That's not always the case. There are lots of hard working people out there with out health care. If they have to pay their own insurrance 100+ dollars could mean gas money, food, or rent. That doesn't always pay for everything. My insurrance is 125 dollars, luckly I'm pretty healthy and at a good weight or else it would be more. To go for a doctor visit is 25. If it was a special visit or the hospital it would be 50-150 dollars. I'm on 3 meds all of which are between 30 - 50 dollars a month or when needed. That really adds up. Now look at a single family. If they are not lucky enough to have company insurrance they would have to pay out the (you know what) if they needed medical attention.

I think health care reform is well past due here.
Think about it, companies that pay for the health care of it's workers have to charge more for their products. More and more people everyday can no longer afford the health care that they may have. Our elderly people suffer needlesly because they can not affford better coverage or medications. So yes I say that the big insurance companies and drug companies need to be knocked down a few pegs and there should be a national system for health care.

We have many programs to help people that make to much money but not enough to afford insurance.

I think what they need to do is something more like set certain standards and lower costs. The medical malpractice suits are what drive up our insurance premiums, but then you have the pharmaceutical companies pushing medicines that are not fully tested and causing tons of issues. You have doctors that take risks. Its a huge mess..

Some how they need to fix this problem so that they can figure out a way to make health insurance affordable to everyone! My premiums are disgustingly high and when I think where else I could be using that money it makes me sick. But you can't be with out health insurance these days.

And to the girl who suggest a real job.. There are people like me that have real jobs, BUT still have a major chunk taken out for a family plan. Not everyone in the country has a union job that pays for there benefits.. I would love to be one of those people that remind you of your post here, when you hit 65 and your on medicare wondering what happened to that perfect hard working union job insurance you have.

I think what the poster is trying to get out.. NOT USING TAX money to send to Foriegn countries to help then when there are issues here at home.. Did you read about the billion dollar party that the US paid for for the party over in Iraq for there freedom. (in Rolling Stone magazine this Dec.)That money should have been used here at home not for some frigging party..

I'm all for it if people pay for their own provider, like auto insurance. We shouldn't give it away like welfare. Nothing should be free. But if we didn't give so much money to other countries we might have enough to help our own people. The federal government just let tons of people die in Katrina. Why care any more for you or me? We are on our own. I have never had coverage of any type. My time could come any day. The government is for it's own agendas which come from influential people, not you and me. They just let us die slowly, business as usual.

If they truly cannot afford it fine, but if they just choose not to make it a priority than NO. I don't believe the government could do a bettet job and give us better care than we have now. The costs would be out of control. Examples - social security, welfare, defense spending, etc. Also by "all people" do you mean anyone standing on our soil, including those here illegally?

for all the money our government gives to other countries, you're darn right health care should be provided to all people. It is embarassing and ridiculous that we, the greatest nation in the world, don't do this.

No it is not. I don't want to have to pay for more stuff. We already give way too much stuff away for free. Universal healthcare is the worst thing that this country could do. Hey everybody, let's take from those who have earned it and give it to the lazy. One bigger step toward socialism.

No! Universal health care DOES NOT work and is a failed policy. If you do not believe me, go ask any Canadian how he/she likes his/her substandard health care. Then ask them how they like waiting in line for 5 hours to receive it.

Additionally, it is not the responsibility of the government to provide anyone with health care.
