i've never looked at a remote, never had one, but if there is no select button, unplug the controller and put in a regular ps2 controller for a minute
start up the ps2, and put in a DVD that asks for the password
when that screen comes up, STOP
push SELECT - only one time
the screen will change slightly
put in the code 7-4-4-4 (push left, left, left, X, left, left, left, X, X, X)
it will now ask you to input a new code, for future use. i advise pushing 0-0-0-0, so that when a DVD in the future asks for the password, you only need to push XXXX until it works
