We are planning a Disney vacation for either this year or next and was wondering what was the best month considering both the crowds and the weather.

Here's a list of the times of year with the lowest attendance and highest attendance, directly from the Walt Disney World website...

"Lowest Attendance: January (except New Year's Day) until just prior to Presidents' week in February
The week following Labor Day until just prior to Thanksgiving week
The week following Thanksgiving until the week prior to Christmas

Moderate Attendance: After Presidents' week in February through early March
Late April through early June (except Memorial Day weekend)
The first part of Thanksgiving week

Highest Attendance: Presidents' week in February
Mid-March through Late April ("Spring Break")
Memorial Day weekend
Mid-June through Labor Day
Thanksgiving Day and weekend
Christmas week through New Year's Day"

Since your children aren't too fond of the heat, I'd say your best bet would be January or November. I've been in November (around the second week) and it was wonderful. The weather and temperature was just perfect. I don't recall the crowds being too bad either. I usually go in August, and while I don't mind it, I wouldn't recommend it for you and your children. The crowds are minimal and I don't mind the heat, but I imagine your children would have a miserable time if they really aren't fans of the heat.

Hope I could help! Have fun!

January through mid-February (for President's Week) and then from there until Memorial Day are the most ideal times to visit. The average temperature for this time is between the mid-70s to low 80s. The day after Labor Day until Thanksgiving are also good times to visit; the weather is slightly cooler, but still warm, as well as early December before Christmas.

Our schools get out a bit earlier than others, so we pack up and leave the day they get out...usually it falls over Memorial Day, but we save the park until the day after. Alot of hotels etc do not consider this their peak season yet, so we are able to get better deals. It's not hot and not crowded. This has worked in Disney , Pigeon Forge, and the Dells.

Anytime there is school vacation some place it is very difficult because it is overcrowded. Same with Easter week, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Summertime you have the crowd condition again and the possibility of a mid afternoon shower everyday.

Best months in my opinion are April and May.

I would never go back to Florida in August. It's absolutely terrible for crowds and weather. I tried October and that wasn't bad. There wasn't too many long queues for rides and the weather was fine. It wasn't that hot. That was just before Hurricane Wilma came but I avoided that.

First 2 weeks of May. The lines are shorter and the weather is not too hot yet. Been there twice for Mother's Day and it was just perfect.
