It depends on what type of indicator it is. But, essentially, you dip or drip the indicator into the solution you're interested in, and then you check the resulting color against a table. Two very well-known indicators are litmus paper and red cabbage juice. The litmus paper would be dipped and pulled out, while the cabbage juice is dripped into the solution. You can't use the indicator unless you have a table showing what color the inidcator turns for a given pH.

I believe you use red or blue litmus paper or pH paper and you dip it into your solution.
On the container that came with the paper should have a colour chart - you match the colour the paper turned with a colour on the chart. The number above the colour is its pH level - Below seven is acidic - zero is the strongest acid. Seven is neutral - only distilled water is really neutral - I believe... Above seven is alkaline - fourteen is the strongest base.

pH indicator is used to indentify how sour is a kind of liquid.
just insert it into the liquid and it will indicate the level of sour the liquid is.

by the concerntration of H+ in the compound ( [H+] ).

you know , pH is calculated by -log [ H+]

and [H+] x [OH-] always equals to 10^-14
