My laptop computer seems to be getting really hot. how do I know if it is getting to the point where it is causing damage to my computer? I really hope somebody can answer me because I only have a few days left to take it back to the store. I mostly feel heat around the mouse pad area of the laptop. Is this normal, and again how do I know if it is too hot around that area?

There have been a bunch of recalls lately on laptop batteries because they have been causing fires.

I know Dell and Apple and some others are affected.

So how do you know when it's too hot.. I guess if it bursts into flames.

Laptops run hotter than PC's. Never use it while you're on your bed and it's right down on the bed covers and don't put it down on carpet while you use it. You should always use it with a book or some hard surface that will prevent the air intakes from being blocked.

If seen something fairly new out there though that looks good. It's a small flat surface with 1 or 2 very thin fans built it to it that you use by placing your laptop on it while working on soft surfaces.

If your laptop is getting hot to the touch, you've got some other problem that should be checked out. If you're coming to the end of a return policy time, maybe the store should take a look at it just to be safe.

Laptops generally get really hot, since they have smaller heatsinks and fans than desktops. Make sure that there is adequate airflow around the fan, e.g. don't use it on carpet. It does damage the computer, slowly but surely, but not any faster than general carting around from place to place would do. Notebooks aren't designed to last for more than a couple of years. If you're really concerned, install something like speedfan to monitor your computer's CPU temperature, and check it against this: http://www.technibble.com/what-is-my-computers-maximum-cpu-temperature/

I would take it back just to be safe. If it's a pretty new laptop (im assuming since you can still return it) then it has no business heating up like that. I have a 2yo. laptop a Dell 700m and I dont feel any noticable heat coming from it even when i leave it on for days.

There are note book fans that plug into the USB port of your computer. If the laptop is in your lap, then air does not circulate. The fan cools the computer, it really works.

this is extremely common for a working laptop or workstation to get somewhat warm on the backside of it, thats not a great deal. the fan hurries as much as attempt to lessen the warmth so any severe warmth will make the fan velocity up. attempt putting your workstation in a various place. in case you have the workstation in a warm room, or in case you positioned you workstation on something that would easily warmth up, then it is going to reason your workstation to get warmer than time-honored. If that doesn't paintings, get somebody to make confident your workstation isnt purely having problems with overheating as some computers overheat better than others or if something is faulty alongside with your fan than it is going to overheat greater even whilst it sounds like this is speeding up. If all else fails or in case you dont opt to spend the money having your workstation fixed, flow to a working laptop or workstation keep and purchase a "cool mat". Its a mat that cools down your workstation once you place it on it and could shop your workstation from overheating or getting TOO warm.

that's normal. just make sure ur laptop is elevated and not ontop of ur bed or other pieces of clothes that might cause more heat to collect in the hot area.
