Buy a live trap, and bait it with dry cat food, carrots and sliced apples. After you've trapped the animal you can destroy it or take it some distance from your house and release it.

Look on www.sportsmansguide.com or go to a local farm and fleet store for a live trap. Good luck

Live traps can be obtained from animal control or the local police department in some towns. When I worked for the P.D., we would even come pick up the traps for the citizens and release the animal in a safer location (I had a few scary releases).

I have also heared that putting human hair clippings around the perimiter of a property repels some animals (because of the scent). Not sure if it works for opossums, but if you are getting a haircut soon, it wouldn't hurt to save the clippings and give it a try.

I'd get a big dog from the pound for outside for about $25. An Opossum would kill a cat, it is bigger and has sharper teeth and claws.

Another cheap home remedy is to put straight ammonia in a spray bottle and spray it around the perimeter of your yard every evening for about a week. Use caution when spraying if there is a breeze it burns if it gets in your eyes or nose.
