My friends just said you can still get pregnant and it just doesn't implant on the sides. The dr. said that it is the most effective birth control. I'm totally confused.

I meant, does it hurt for a long time when it's inserted? I know it hurts immediately afterwards for awhile.

I would never have an IUD inserted. They are painful, they can become dislogded, and they aren't the most effective form of birth control. I would opt for the pill before I would use an IUD. My mother has always had them, and the last time it was inserted, she had to be admitted to the hospital, because she became deathly sick. Another time, she was in a car wreck, and it came out, and damaged part of her uterus. The things just downright even LOOK scary to me.

I had this to control bleeding, a MIrena IUD, has a medication, like the pill in it, that is emitted slowly ov er the lifespan of the IUD implant. (5years usually). 6 months down the track, I began to bleed and had awful pains, it was removed.
Pros: Birth Control..but better to use condoms or just absatin (not fair to abstain though LOL)
Cons: Developing Pelvic Inflammatory Disease from the IUD being inserted, not fun at all. You need Antibiotics then and lots of pain relief and to have salt baths to ward off the infection.

To be inserted, it only takes a minute or two. Day procedure units do the job. It hurts like one big ocontraction during labor to have it inserted, although they give you ibuprofen or some such drug prior to the procedure.
There are two lines from the IUD that you can feel inside you, this makes sure it is in place. These are uncomfy for the 1st 2 weeks or so. Your partner will feel them when having sex, they are hard like fishing line. Then, the lines settle to the side of your uterus and then your partner will not feel them anymore, takes a few weeks though.

There was a time when an IUD could cause complications and be painful. But now they are extremely effective and have much lower incidence of problems.
All contraceptives carry side effects. If youre doctor is confident about the procedure then perhaps you are the one one that needs to decide. do youre home work...research the IUD against all of the other birth control methods out there and decide whats right for you.http://www.medicinenet.com/birth_control/article.htm

I have had the Mirena IUD for almost three years. I have no complaints. When my dr. inserted it, it just felt like some period cramps that lasted for a couple hours. After having it inserted you will spot for a while, but it is sooo worth it. I haven't had a period in at least a year. My doc said it is normal for Mirena to eliminate your period. After the spotting quit, my periods where greatly shortened, then eventually went away. This was great for me since I had very painful periods. I would definately recommend it.

the main uncomplicated trouble of Coil/IUD is general infections because of the fact the Coil/IUD irritates the endometrium consistently and in keeping with that inflammation, the endometrial glands secrete extra secretions, a medium for bacterial boost. apart from, it isn't any longer thoroughly secure as a being pregnant preventive degree; effectual in uncomplicated terms approximately 80-80 5%. the only professional is that your physique isn't uncovered to extra estrogen/progesterone.
