When I looked at where the hoses hook up in the engine compartment there seems to be a panel on the firewall that the heater core pipes go thru. Can the core be accessed by removing this panel?

heater cores are always a pain, the core must be pulled from inside the car, make sure you didconnect the in a nd outlet hose under the hood and drain the radiator down about half way, be prepaired the plastic carpartment that hoses the core is usaully sealed and difficlut to break apart, i reccomend buying a 15 dollar haynes manual from auto zone or go to the library and read up onthe chiltons manual, pack a lunch and good luck

You the heater core would be directly behind those hoses inside the car. you would have to remove the bottom dash panel and then the heater core is usually inside a box. you can pick up a repair manual for help at any parts store!

No, sorry. This is a big pain in the *** to get at. You have to remove several parts of the lower dash and the duct work in behind to access and replace it. These will strain your patience and your back, believe me. You do have to start with the removal of the hoses under the hood, but this is most likely all you will need to do under the hood. Check some repair manuals out or access the GM ones online at the manufacturers site. If that doesn't work for you, visit a dealership and ask to look at their manuals or online manuals.
