Dump him and quit trying to drag it out!
You are just making his life miserable.

I would probably blame the situation on ME.
Just say that you love him but you still have feelings for your ex or something liket that.
Anything else will just confuse the hell out of him.
I am confused just reading this. If he said that to you, wouldnt you think it was kinda strange?
If you love him WHY CANT YOU BE WITH HIM (dont answer that just wondering outloud)
GOOD LUCK

Just tell him face to face and straight. Don't phone him and do not send him an e mail. That is the chickens way out. It's been done to me and it sucks. Be kind and be honest with him. You will feel better for doing it the right way.

You don't. If you love him you WANT to be together. Sounds to me like you're playing with him and if not then you need some help! That's just a mans thoughts.

There is no easy way, you just have to straight up tell him, there is no other way to do it, as much as all of us would like for there to be this "other way" that makes it easy to do such things ( breaking up ect..) so that neither person gets hurt and everyone lives happily ever after, but there is no such thing.

If you dont want to be with him, dont use the word love. It just confuses the boundaries and situation.

i had this same problem. the main thing to do is TELL him. sit him down or talk to him on the phone. just don't resort to IM's or emails or texts. tell him straight up that you still care about him, but you don't want to date him. sorta like, "what we have is awesome. but dating would totally eff it up."

well, you go into a private place where no one is around and say "i have something to tell you...i...i really still luv you but...i just don't wanna be hooked, i mean...i...(sniffle sob)(MUST INCLUDE SNIFFEL SNOB OR WON'T WORK!)...i don't know how to say this but... i really luv you and i just...i dunno can't be with you! (totally go all out with the crying)...i really luv you! i luv you so much, so i was hoping you'd understand!(try to go into his arms)." if he don't let you, cry a lot more...and say quietly(but make sure he hears: "i luv you... i really do...I luv you, [name]..."
and let his side of the story take it from there.

Here the simplest answer:
It does not work that way!!!!!!!!!
You can't be in love with someone, not truly in love, and not want to be with them........
Make sense?
