To get the power to smoouth out the hill will cost big time. Since you are just towing a few times a year i would just hang in there.
Just look at the big trucks and a long hill and how they creep up slow if there loaded.
If you do get some thing that can take the hills, then you just rip ot your back end or drop drive shafts. it is the whole drive line you have to up grad.
Diesel are better for power always is it Worth the $$?
Have fun and tune in to a good radio station.

Buy a Ford 1 Ton (F-350). GMC, and Chevy never have had much pulling power. You could try a GMC3500, but I think you would be better off getting a Ford. They will pull anything including broke down GMC's. The diesel won't help you either. Its just your truck wasn't made to handle the load. Sounds like your truck has the wrong gear ratio in the rear axle.

yes you could fall back to an older diesel and it probably would do better, and your truck would trade real good for one also,,you might come out to the good on this one,,but i mechanic for a living and i do a lot of work on the older trucks,,and if you could get a real good used one you,d probably be better off than you are right now,i know how these trucks run,,and id say it is pulling it pretty hard with that much weight behind it,you might want to look around, and just see whats out there right now there are some good deals waiting to be had,,good luck hope this help,s.happy new years.

a diesel will always do better for towing because of the torque availible. if i were you id look for an older model diesel. conversely, go to your local newstand an look through some of the off road magazines there.many times theyll have a tow guide and also have products availible to improve your existing trucks performance, not just with towing-but fuel economy as well.

diesels always is bette rfor towing, thus all the torque..older or nwer...I am wondering if your truck has the tow package from the factory?? I have th exact truck and I pull 11,500lbs....shhhhh, dont tell on me.....lol...with really no problem...I keep it in 3rd gear, and push my tow button on my shifter,a nd it syncrinizes your tranny to a different shift pattern for the rpms...your tranny might be going bad...try a flush on it at 1st, or have it checked out..good luck !!...you shouldnt be bogged down too bad on the hills !!

I even have in no way understood why human beings admit they are making use of yet another account because of the fact they have been blocked. that's generally adult men who do this, yet for some reason those braintrusts do not understand how silly and immature they provide the impact of being. As for the different one -- combat hearth with hearth -- you could make a desirable grievance first. I found out an prolonged time in the past to "not settle for" emails. Oh my, if I did, i will in undemanding terms think of the dislike i could might desire to manage...i will sometimes come off as snarky.
