I don't believe you're really an 8th grader asking this question....
but just in case you are....
Have you actually SEEN your friends smoking weed?? There is a good chance they are LYING to impress you or others.
It is possible that you can smoke weed and get good grades, but it is not what usually happens. Most people that start out with weed think that most drugs are harmless and innocent. They may seek a bigger "high" and move on to more dangerous drugs such as heroine.
Also, while your friends may smoke weed and get good grades, they won't be able to necessarily maintain a job on weed. Most major corporations do a yearly drug test on their employees. They use your hair and will take it from ANYWHERE on your body in order to get it. So unless you completely shave your body, they can determine if you've used a drug within a year or 2 or 3 or longer. The only places that don't typically do such testing are fast food and minimum wage positions.
So doing pot or other drugs is not just about a test score, its about your future as well.

Your teachers aren't lying unless you go to some fundamental religious school where dogma is mroe important than fact. But I dont think you do, so your teachers aren't lying.
Sure, smoking a little weed may not reduce your grades, but then it MAY.... and is it really worth the risk? Also, the kida who are smoking a little dope now have 2 ways to go - no drugs or more drugs. But they can't stay the same, just smoking a little dope. And if they go down the road of smoking more dope, or taking harder drugs, they are on the way to loserdom, where everything in their life will suffer, from health to relationships, financial status etc etc.... I know a lot of people who have had major and minor psychotic episodes from smoking weed even just once, and people who smoked a lot who now have schitzophrenia. Your teachers aren't lying.

actually, weed is bad for your health, but if you don't smoke lots of it every day, it won't make you really stupid. new research is also casting doubt on whether or not marijuana really leads to harder drugs. nearly everyone who ends up a drug addict probably would have done so even without marijuana. however, smoking marijuana is kind of liking smoking a whole pack if cigarettes at once, so it gives you lung problems at lot faster. marijuana is also far less addictive than alcohol or tobacco or any other illegal drug, it has valid medical uses, and it has no known (or practical) lethal limit. just because your friends smoke weed and still get good grades doesn't mean it's not harmful. i personally don't have a problem with people using marijuana, it's not in the same realm in terms of danger as alcohol or tobacco or heroin or coke or meth or other illegal drugs, however, given the damage it does to the lungs and your age, i would stay away from it if i were you. and yes teachers and the government stretch all the facts to scare you, but that doesn't invalidate everything they say

Don't base your opinion of weed upon what you see with your friends. The truth of the matter is that marijuana leads to harder drugs. My wife and I have spent the last 30 years helping people get off of drugs. We have a husband and wife living with us now who have spent the last 12 years doing meth and heroine. I am hoping they make it.
The one thing that every single one of these people have in common is they started by smoking weed. Not everybody who smokes weed will become a heroine addict, but all heroine addicts start by smoking weed. That should be enough information to scare anybody into not doing it.
Please don't think that smoking weed gives them better grades, because it doesn't. Listen to your teachers... they are telling you the truth.
You just hang in there and say "No!" and you are going to be far, far better off in 5-10 years from now.

Please don't kill yourself. That won't solve anything. You'll still be away from your dad, your mother won't change her actions, and you'll be dead. Talk to a councilor. Show them this or explain them your situation yourself. They may be able to get you back to your dad (no promises though). You admitted yourself that 15 is really young. You have so much to do still. Like the first poster said, not everyone can write a coherent page like this. You definitely have potential. Try some of these coping strategies: Write. Stories, poems, letters. A good stress relief for me is to write a letter about someone or something I totally despise. BUT I DON'T SEND IT. I tear it up, throw it around the room, burn it if in an appropriate place. I get whatever is on my mind off, and I have fun doing it. Try some relaxing/breathing exercises when things are tough. Listen to music. Calming or otherwise, it helps take your mind off of the world. Paint/draw/ do artsy things. Cliche' but effective. Talk with people who care. The first poster and myself are both viable options. No one wants to see or hear that you are dead. Please take advantage of the opportunities we are giving you. Best of luck. I hope to see more posts from you. Rogue Wave EDIT: as I was writing this, so many more people offered themselves to you. Take advantage of it. Don't listen to flease. Their logic can be a little skewed...

Many people tend to overeact to the fact that people are on drugs. Escpecially teachers and counselors I am in highschool and trust me, i know alot of people on drugs and lots more that have drugophobia. you shouldnt do drugs if you think they are going to help you, they wont but dont listen to all of the mumbo jumbo about how drugs are the most dangerous thing you could ever do to yourself, getting behind the wheel of a car or eating out at a fast food place are just as dangerous no matter what a drug councelor will tell. You friends are just lucky they get good grades. try focusing on your work a little more. and dont worry about what other people do. just think about you. good luck kiddo

You cannot compare the academic ability of one student to another. Also, the length of time that the grades can continue to be acceptable may vary from student to student as well. The consequences of drug use also varies from person to person. Middle school teachers rarely lie about these consequences. Students in their limited experience however, don't believe that the bad things will ever happen to them. Unfortunately by the time the bad things do happen, it is too late.

Check the research and the long term effects. What you are seeing right now is not what you will see out of them in the future. I spent my last two years of high school trying to keep a friend awake, on task, and out of trouble because he was stoned more than he was not. My other friends also tried to help keep him out of trouble at school. Fast forward to now, I am a teacher and I now teach his son every day. His son has major medical, physical, and emotional issues, the main cause of which stem from his father's status as a "burn out" when he was conceived. Your health teachers are not lying to you.

i hope they're not lying to you...the truth is often really scary, as in recreational drug use, dangerous sexual behaviors and std's. this is the deal: your brain is not completely mature until you're around age 19 or 20. why kill off brain cells that do not regenerate, and possibly cause yourself permanent damage before your brain is fully mature? you will never know what your potential could've been. once you start using substances, it becomes easier to do other dangerous behaviors that could have a lasting impact on your life, or even end your life before you get to live it to the fullest.

Life is so much more appreciated when we don't cloud it with substances. Run... play sports... find a mentor... read... pray... laugh... do the thing that feels right, not the thing that everyone else says is right. Be different... set an example instead of being one. You will be happy you did...someday... :-)
