The key is to break up the goal into mini-goals and then accomplish those goals on a consitent basis.

For example, during my first marathon, my legs started burning around mile 20. So from that point onward, I'd walk one minute, run three minutes, and repeated until I was at the finish line.

It's like this for all goals, having faith that if take another step, you'll eventually reach your goal.

Not being satisfied with my current state or condition. In almost any situation, a goal is act of making yourself BETTER. Whether it's to save money for college, get a promotion at work, lose weight, WHATEVER. If it's a goal it's usually to make yourself better than before, or put you in a better situation than before. If you're stagnant and living a "fat and happy" life, you won't have the drive to achieve your goal. You have to be darn near disgusted with your current self or situation to stay on task. As long as you are disatisfied and know you deserve better, nothing will keep you from it.

well my goal is to get out of the hell hole they call high school. 1 more semester.

What keeps me going is knowing that i will never have to sit through another pointless class and listen to all the stupid kids talk about what kind of drugs they did over the break and how drunk they got. (Man i don't want to go back tomorrow) I'm not in to all the drugs and partys so having to listen to them makes me want to explode. I know that when i graduate i can go to college where at least there are some mature people and not dumbazzes.

I hate high school. It will not be remembered as the best years of my life.

I'm a student so when I really want to get a good grade on a test, what keeps me going is the satisfaction of being in the top5 when the results are handed out, I just have to take one of those spots. I crave for that proud/happy feeling in my chest everytime I feel successful about my work. I guess my drive to excel is just what keeps me going forward and reaching further. You just have to motivate yourself really hard to get the things you want.

You have to really want to attain the goal to have the determination needed in attaining difficult goals. So I right down my goals, steps to achieve them and work on the small goals that lead me to my larger goal. The taste of succeeding your goals is a great reward, in and of itself!

This verse from the bible: "Laying down the things that hinder me, I press on towards the prize, my high calling in Jesus Christ". What moves me is knowing the only things I accomplish in life that have eternal significance are the things I do for His glory, not mine.

My motivation: Knowing that if I procrastinate (or give up completely), I'll usually end up a few more steps behind by the time I start up again.
