I just had to get into this discussion.
First of all, just because we know that President Bush maintained a C average while in Yale, we know nothing about how he got into the school. For all we know, Bush could have had a very high gpa in high school and great SAT scores.
Also, we have to remember that admissions into the Ivy League was not nearly as challenging when Bush was there as it is now. For instance, as late as 1992, Havard had an overall acceptance of 16%, Penn nearly 50%, and Yale right around Harvard. Go back even further, and we are talking about a significant increase in acceptance rates for these great schools.
Also, financial aid is it is today is a relatively new concept, so you basically had to have money in order to attend one of these school. So, the applicant pool would have been lower too. Thus, increasing Bush's chances of admission.

The first thing you should consider is that if this question had gone the other way -- reversing the order of Methodist and Catholicism -- your response from Catholics would not have been anywhere close to the condemnatory stuff you're seeing here. At the most, you'd have been urged to take a closer look at the Catechism and make sure you clearly understood what the Church teaches before making such a change. You would not have been told anything negative about the Methodist church. That, all by itself, should tell you something. The usual way for people to learn about Catholicism and, if they desire, come into the Church as a convert from another Christian faith community is to take RCIA classes. These are offered by almost every local parish church, and usually begin in the fall. A phone call to the nearest parish office will provide you with information about the classes. They are offered at no cost; the parishioners themselves pick up the tab for any materials. In the meantime, I often recommend a book called (believe it or not) "Catholicism for Dummies" because it provides a very readable yet thorough and accurate overview of Catholic beliefs as well as their basis in Scripture. There are other very good resources, as well, and you'll probably get some of them from others who answer this question. You'd be welcome, also, to e-mail me. I'm a convert as well, a former Baptist, and went through RCIA. God bless you on your journey.

Due to the morally bankrupt years of Clinton, America was lost and people prey on the void that it created. We swing from one type of type of moral horror to another. From a social to corporate . We look like we are swinging again. After Bush we are so horrified by his behavior, we will jump on another false savior. Look at Nixon. He was a good President, but unquestionably diabolical man. After our outrage, we elected The most moral President we hade in modern history, but politically inept. Have I insulted everyone for attacking liberals and conservative alike.

W has lived in Texas for many years, so he knows what a texan is supposed to sound like. He probably had to start speaking like a texan when he ran for governor of texas, they may not have voted for him if he sounded like a preppy from Connecticut.

What? Bush went to Harvard for an MBA and Yale for a master's in history and he was a member of the exclusive Skull and Bones society. If he's good enough for the nukes, he's good enough for me.
