I believe it's actually "lookism" (you can check with wikipedia) and it means the highest value in society is placed on how one looks. Appearances, thus the most superficial things, are elevated above morality. This is most prevalent in North American culture. I have read about lookism in some scholarly works that analyse the decay of Western Civilization.

Good question. Looks-ism is basically giving preference to people who are better looking, rather than the fugs. Seriously though, this question asks another: The person who is giving preference is basically going on what he/she thinks looks good. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That could be anything. So who is beautiful and who is not? I know a man who thinks Gisele Bunchen is ugly!! How can that be? And my dear uncle who thinks Jennifer Aniston is prettier than Angelina Jolie (I think they are both beautiful, but different kinds of it). Sorry for rambling.

discriminating against people's looks like hiring pretty people before ugly people. Firing fat people and replcaing them with skinny people. favoring tall people than short people!
