it has gotten to where it will shut off with power button but earlier had to unplug battery it was a solid grey or solid grey with safe mode words in each corner

This could be a problem with your user profile or the Operating System.
Does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
Usually there is a factory restore you can do to return the notebook to the original factory settings (only the OS is installed). You would have to reinstall all of your programs and backup your data.
This will rule out and problems with the Operating System. If the problems remian that you could have a hardware issue.
The factory restore utility is access by first turning the notebook on and either pressing a blue Access button or a key combination.
