I hate browsing the net feeling I'm being tracked. Not doing anything illegal, but still don't like that feeling. What can I do to ensure I get the most possible privacy while surfing the net? Recommend any tips/programs. Thanks.

Vidalia (Tor + Privoxy) or I2P. And stop being paranoid- there are millions of people who do do illegal things without any privacy precautions and they're still around on the 'net.

Browse sensibly! Dont download freeware! Its NOT free! It will infest your PC to the hilt with spyware! If you do find something interesting to download, make sure you read the contract fully! It will tell you in the contract that its going to download 3rd party software. Avoid so called web accelerators, they dont accelerate anything but revenue for their company! They will infest your PC with adware and spyware! Set up 2 e mail accounts, one for your private friends and family, one for use on the net! The second e mail should be web based, yahoo is good web based e mail! It will keep spam and other malware off your PC! Lastly, DONT use p2p or file sharing sites! You arent downloading from a site, you are downloading from another users PC! Do you trust someone you dont know?

1. Use a computer specifically for browsing and nothing else
2. Place the computer behind a hardware firewall. Most wireless network devices have this option
3. Don't keep personal information on the computer

Truthfully, there's nothing you can do to be totally private.

Reality check , if you wanna play on the net , accept that it is life in a fishbowl . . .
If serous trackers want you , they can track , you can only minimize the amateur tracking .
If you are not doing anything illegal , loose the paranoia . .
but still be vigilant about issues that might result in ID theft.

Use the Tor onion proxy network (tor.eff.org)
Disable cookies.

Those ways allow you to be much more anonymous, but at the niceness of that, you get the downsides of slow speeds and incompatiblities (due to the disabled) cookies.
Though, you can't put a price on privacy.
