Mississippi seems like a charming state. The people I've met have been very pleasant and charming. The land is gently rolling, but has beautiful pine forests. The rivers are nice, wide, and have a gentle feel about them--the sound soothes you at night. The Gulf Coast has made incredible strides to rebuild itself, and Southhaven (Desoto County) is a booming, cosmopolitan suburb of Memphis. The schools--Ole Miss, Miss. State, Miss. College, Miss. College for Women, etc.--are as full of opportunity as where. Oxford is a beautiful, historic, charming town unlike any other--so tiny yet so cosmopolitan.

It sure seems to beat the heck out of Kentucky, where I live.

I lived in Mississippi for a few months. I loved it. I came back cause I missed my friends and what-not. The tall trees are nice and the people have that Southern nice-ness. And you can get sweet tea anywhere. You can't do that where I live now. And I met Ted Dibiase's son at church one day.

I like to vacation at the casinos along the Mississippi (Tunica county). I find the fellow tourists and the people running the restaurants to be very pleasant and very friendly. Except for the occasional ice storm in the winter the climate makes winter vacations there a delight compared to New England.

Mississippi is a Southern state with a long sad history of anti Black racism. They were the last state to outlaw slavery, the first state to impose Jim Crow slavery, the only state that ever outlawed the NAACP and they were the only state that ever had a state agency devoted entirely to preserving segregation and fighting against Black civil rights (the Mississippi State Soverenity Commission) that functioned for over 30 years (1950 - 1981)

Kentucky has got to better than Mississippi. desoto county, where i live, is so run down... all of the crime from memphis has moved down here. there really isn't much to offer here. i would love to move out of this state. there is more to it than a brochure.

I live in the gulf coast area of Mississippi and it sucks. Though I do love to spell it. I loved living in North Carolina.

Last June I drove through Mississippi en route to my new home. I found it refreshing and pleasant. I didn't stay there as it was the last leg of the trip.
What I could see from the interstate it was beautiful as was everything east of Texas.

Scenic countryside.
Maybe the colleges are OK, but the public school system has a reputation for being educationally lacking.
