Have your parents hit you as a kid? When one of your parents would hit you, did the other one be on your side? From which parent were you scared as a kid?

Hi there;
Of course my parents gave me a few whallups as a kid. No neither one took "sides" in fact the both supported each other.
Was it abusive in the sense that it is called today? Newps.
Each and every time I got whapped, I did deserve it and knew that I would get it too. Each and every time the incident was because I did something that would A: harm myself or B: harm someone else. I was never whacked out of anger or frustration or retaliation because my parents were in "Overload". I knew the rules, I broke them and that's what happens when the rules were broken. My siblings also got whapped when they broke the rules as well. I was NEVER whacked with any object nor for any trivial thing like crying or sassiness. The discipline fit the crime.
Looking back I supposed that it would have been easier on my parents if they just blew it off with a "you're grounded deal" but that would not have fit the deed. Actually getting whacked was not the worse part of the whole deal. The WORST part was knowing that when Dad got home I was in for me having to explain, then getting the "talk", then the whack. After that, my bratty siblings would needle me to no end. Grrrr...
Was I scared of my parents? Heck NO. I loved them and they loved me. More than that I respected them.
Now, as an adult, I know that there are laws (adult speak for rules) and I follow them. I also take my responsibilities seriously.
Life is what you make of it as long as you bring no harm to anyone else. Those are the lessons I learned. :)
PS. I did not hit my own kid the way I have seen others hit their kids. My boy did not get whalloped like I did because he did not do the whacky things I did. LoL.
IMHO todays parents have no clue as to what is appropriate discipline and how to administer it.

I got spanked, but I think that's different from hitting. I wasn't scared of either of my parents because I was such a hard headed person. And no parent ever took my side over the other parent....they took the other parent's side no matter what.

sure my mom hit me but at least she stuck around and did the best she could with 5 kids on her own ~

Mom hit me a few times. They were screamers though.

Yea...with a cane.
It was my dad i suppose..
he got killed 5 weeks later, since i told the police and he was rushing out of town and was swearing at me on the phone...guud timesss

the only thing i ever got was a swat on my diapered behind when i was a toddler..but that was it..i wasn't afraid of my parents because they were not physically abusive

My mom used to hit us....but it was her verbal abuse that was much worse...cuz that doesnt leave marks and its hard to get people to understand how painful it is

i'm scared of my mom, she like abuses me! but my dad tries to talk her out of being mad at me, so she just goes and gets herself drunnk and high on crap

They tried ! My dad was the one we were all afraid of ! But he was always fair!
