You just need to devote a LOT of time and effort into searching your family history. Or you could hire someone to search it for you, but that would be expensive. My Aunt is obsessed with it, and has been searching our family history for about 20 years now. She found out we're descended from Irish royalty.

The word "royal" has a legal definition. It means you are the child of a monarch, the grandchild of a monarch via a son, or the great grandchild of a monarch via the oldest son of the oldest son. Princess Anne's children are not royal because they are grandchildren via a daughter. "Royal blood" has no legal definition. But certainly the great grandchild of a monarch meets the customary informal definition of having royal blood. As the daughter of a Viscount she uses the style "The Honourable Margarita Armstrong- Jones". When her paternal grandfather dies, her father will become the Earl of Snowdon, she will be known as The Lady Margarita Armstrong- Jones. As "royal blood" has no formal definition, it is safe to say that you can say you have royal blood until nobody cares. Almost every person of British ethnicity is a descendant of William the Conqueror, the first monarch of the dynasty. Among people who can trace their ancestry are President Obama and Ellen Degeneres. You would actually be very unusual if you were not descended from William the Conqueror. Britain only broke 5 million population less than 400 years ago. France has been at that population for over 2000 years ago. As a result, British people are much more closely related. Even Katherine Middleton, who has no titles in her family for at least 15 generations, is suspected of being 15th cousins with her husband William.

Jessie H is right. I have dedicated many years to researching my family roots as well. It is time consuming and expensive but equally rewarding and addictive. You first need to have basic family information that will lead you on your quest. If you do find the information that you family was in fact part of royalty, the only way to prove this is through DNA from a MALE SIBLING in the family. This is because the blood line is stronger on the male side of the family, however, if your family has branched out too far it may be harder to prove. Royalty was pretty good about keeping bloodlines intact by marrying other royal bloodlines, unfortunately modern society has changed this quite a bit. IT should also be noted however if someone else in your family has already proven it, then you will automatically be given rights to your bloodline as well. There are some excellent websites to help you on your journey, start with typing in your last name........its amazing what you will find.

I am assuming you're American. You probably do have some kind of royal blood in you. 5/6 Americans have royal blood and are descended from some kind of royalty.

However, search your family trees. There is ancestry.com but that costs money.

Just take a small knife and nick one of your veins , if the blood comes out blue you may be a Royal , but even if your not you can use the blood for ink.

Well, if you're horribly inbred, you're probably royal.
Seriously, the way to do it is to research your geneology. But since all humans share 99.9 % of their DNA with each other, does it really matter?
