I'm not a heartless guy and I'm a registered republican, but during the last two bowl games they had the moment of silence for Pres. Ford and I can't seem to think of anything that he did for this country that connects me emotionally to the situation. Is anyone else having that problem?

Did you sleep through History class?

All Presidents, whether you agree with them or not deserve our respect.

The Ford family did a great deal for this country. President Ford did his best to help this country heal from Watergate and many other painful things. His dear wife was brave enough to discuss her breast cancer, and doing so, no doubt saved the lives of many.

You feel as though you were forced to suffer for a moment of silence in his honor?! Shame on you!

Like him or not, he was our president. If you can't see the importance of honoring one person out of our entire government for a couple of days -- and God forbid it ruin your football-watching experience! -- then I feel sorry for you. Ford did two important things: he pardoned Richard Nixon and he put John Paul Stevens on the US Supreme Court. Many of us think that the second act far outweighed the former. He was also the first prez since Kennedy to be an active family man and have a really cool wife, Betty. Mourn for Betty's sake if you have to. That lady did more to publicize breast cancer and substance abuse than any other First Lady before or since.

maybe it's NOT ABOUT connecting YOU to the situation... if you can't figure out what Jerry Ford did for this country, then you're too young to remember how things were during the 'watergate period', or the only news you pay attention to are the box scores and whatever britney spears is up to...or you slept thru history class...

I wasn't alive during Ford's presidency. Then again, I was alive for Reagan's and I wasn't emotional when he died. All the Presidents who serve deserve the honors. I think it's more of traditon & a matter of respect than anything.

I'm sure it makes a difference depending on how old you are. For me, I thought he was one of our better presidents because he really care about the nation. He tried to bring us together after some pretty bad times. I also like the fact that he never wanted to be president, he wanted to be speaker of the house!
