I loved turning 40! It was a liberating birthday. You realize that you're going to things differently the "second half" of your life and you start to pay more attention to your own wants and needs and less attention to what others may think about your choices. You're old enough to have experience and young enough to be able to enjoy life, travel, and do whatever you'd like. Get ready to celebrate!!!

I will be forty this year and I'm feeling as though I'm entering into my 20's but with wisdom. So yes, I certainly think it begins or it's a new beginning at 40. It's most certainly not downhill, that's an awful outlook on turning 40. Happy New Year.

When did life "end" for you which makes you believe that it begins again at 40? If you cut a full grown tree , not at the root, but at the trunk, then you notice that the tree springs leaves again and tries to catch up with its growing.
Did you cut your mental and physical abilities earlier ? In which case you can hope to revive it again. Buy, I donot think, you did that.
What happens to us at forty ( or fifty or sixty, for that matter) is our psychological fear or irrational thoughts that we ( our body) stops to develop and starts to deteriorate. Fueling this fear is the onset of , say, menopause, the reading glass need , the cholestrol checks , annual breast cancer screening ... what not!
But, do we realise that since our birth some part of the body is dying? The milk teeth fell off. Did you worry? You used only 20% of your brain so far? Did you ever think of that?It is all a myth.
I would say at Forty , you start off with many positive things. First you have outgrown your many small desires as you had lived it up. You are tired of them and look for a longer lasting happiness. You realise that you are able to see the goal post. The mind is more alert to concentrate on important things.
Go on. Life accelerates at forty.

I hope so because I am 40 too. Have to say that I feel a lot more positive about this birthday, than I did my 30th. I feel more confident, and have changed my image already (and I'm not 40 till May). I have decided to embrace it, and make the most of everyday.
When I hit 30, I said that I would start going backwards, so I am only going to be 20!! I think it is all about how you feel inside, and I still feel 20, so, sod the numbers 40, 30 or 18yrs, who cares - not me!!
Apparently, one of the big magazines (can't remember which one though) said that being 40 is the new 30!
Not sure how they worked that one out, but am quite happy to go along with it!
Have a great 40th year - I intend to!

others say that when people get to their 20s, 30s. its not really a case of it beginning at 40, 30- but of how he/she makes the most of their life. hey, don't see it as a bad thing. think positively and approach 40 just like when you were 20 or 30. i'm going to turn 26 next month and alas i will be half way through to being 30 but i still feel as young as when i was 10, 15, 16. and do what makes you happy and comfortable. 40 should be a great age. i wish you a happy 40th birthday and hope you enjoy your day!

You know, this saying has a classical background. The priestesses of the Goddess Vesta, the 'Vestal Virgins', were held in service to the deity until the age of forty, at which point they were allowed to leave the shrine and marry if they so wished...
Think about it, it's really not so bad for you in comparison to the trouble they'll have had finding someone to love them... and hey, life is what you make of it... sure, you can get in a negative spiral, but you can get in a postive one too. My mum's seventy, and she's having the most active, socially involved time of her life... or so it seems... keep kicking, it'll be okay.
And did you hear the one about the princess who was forced to become a Vestal Priestess, and got ravished by Thor whilst she slept by a river? Rough...

It's a great age! I was talking to my sister who turns 40 v.soon and told her to love every minute of it. There is a certain feeling of liberation and I dont know anybody yet that, at this age, has'nt felt as young as ever. I turned 40 two years and immediately went to Taiwan for some months, and from there I went straight to Spain and have'nt left yet! There is so much fun to be had and this is the perfect time to do it. Whoever said life begins..... was 100% right!

You cannot be more careful when it comes thinking when life begins ... as a matter of fact it can begin any time ... one got to be careful all the time for that matter ... lest some opportunities may pass. And as far as your life is concerned, I gather that it has to begin yet, with this thought in view your will be brand a new experience ... just make the best of it!

40 is a wonderful age so go out there and enjoy it. I loved my 40's and now I'm in my early 50's I'm enjoying this age even more! I separated from my husband at 50 and now have a 'toyboy' who is 6 years younger than me and it's great fun! My son is grown up and no trouble at all and life is looking good. Your body might get 'older' but mentally you'll still feel 18!
