President Bush has declared tomorrow as a National Day of MOURNING due to the death of President Ford. (altho some people may consider it a happy holiday!)

Government offices will be closed, along with the post office, but all stores and businesses and schools will be open.

Jan 2 is a federal holiday. Federal offices will be closed. Some state offices will be closed at the behest of the governor. Retail will not likely follow suit.

Tomorrow is a national day of mourning, so the post office, government offices, and probably banks will be closed. I don't think stores will be. I think it will depend upon the individual stores.

Retail stores only close 3 days a year-Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. They are open to serve your needs every single other day of the year. No matter what.
