The guy was great a couple years ago. In fact, he was pretty good last year as well. But lets face it, this year he has only played 4 games. FOUR GAMES! He's not even one of the top 5 centers in the league. So why are people still voting for him? He's not an All-Star. You need to play games to be an All-Star. I mean, if Dikembe Mutomobo played 4 games this season and put up 14 points and 7 rebounds (like Shaq did in his 4 games) would he get all those votes?

IMO, people are just voting Shaq because they don't want to accept the fact that he's on a down slope. Shaq is living off of his old glory.

So, does anyone have any reasons why Shaq, a player who played only 4 games this season, scoring only 14 PPG and 7 RPG, is getting the most votes in the East as a starter for the 2007 NBA All-Star game?

To add, I have nothing against Shaq.

He's IMO, the second most valuable player to play since Michael Jordan (LeBron is first).

I just don't think that he should be getting the credit he gets, playing only 4 games in the season and then being considered the top center in the east where you have Dwight Howard and all of these other guys who are better than him.

"lebron is not that great! omg...its SO ANNYOING to keep hearing about him."

Yes, the truth hurts sometimes, we know.

"allen iverson is the best player in the legue right now."

LOL, Allen "It's only practice" Iverson is the best? Thanks for the laugh.

"why did people vote for jordan when he played for the wizards?"

Well, he did something. He still put up respectable numbers. Shaq hasn't been doing anything.

This very occurance is why I am in favor of taking the voting out of the hands of fans. If you're going to have a democratic process, let the players and coaches do the voting. It is not about who the best players are, or even who is having the best season. It is totally about popularity and marketing.

Personally, the all star weekend stuff annoys the hell out of me. The contests are cool and all, but all the entertainers commentary and performances makes it sickeningly commodified. I know its about money anyway but DAMN. You can't hardly get to the game becuase the cameras are always in the crowd. Lets go back to the way it used to be. Throwback jerseys are popular, how about throwback organizing. Have a celebrity or artists sing the national anthem, give a tribute to the armed forces and get it on.

But thats just what I think.

Not that many centers left in the entire league let alone the east. A healthy Shaq is still the premier center out east and so he's getting votes out of past play and reputation.

The nba voting isn't perfect just look at yao ming in the west who hasn't deserved any of his past all star starts

Sori to oppose ur thinking!

Think about it ,if player who grown old or past their prime got 4gotten and disrespect and its what today world is all about ,just thinking about the new talents who could perform better because of their energy and age compare to veterans, then how could we get talents to stay in this league in the future when veterans were easily 4gotten..

Lastly, dont 4 get alot of legends would just stay in this league and be respected by teams mate or fans,BUT Shaq won the rings last season which is all the players in this league is aiming regardless of young or veterans talents. So can i just say he's the best centre in this league NOW!(which only rings could determint individual ability in NBA,instead of just saying he 's the best pg/centre/forward....eg'king's JAmes/Yao/Dampier/Howard/Nowistzki...)

i know its lame to credit one's ability in just RINGS,but i think with all the saying/self-proclaimed all around the league ,getting the rings is what a GREAT player is all about...

Lastly,U can say he's old/useless or look at he's stat agaisnt other players out there,BUT a useless/old player actually get the job done(finish the season with a ring) ,then sorry to say that all others player out there were worst than useless..

''Pls RESPECT the legends and not just forgotten their UPS and remenber their DOWNS''

This stuff happens every year!! Thats what happens when we get stupid fans voting!! Shaq is on a down slop but he can still play. He does not need to be in the Allstar Game though!!

It is nothing more then a popularity contest for the fans .The all-star game should be voted on by the players , coaches , officials and select group of broadcasters. If we need to give to fical fans something to vote for , they can vote for best cheerleaders or mascot .

You take all-star voting seriously? The masses know nothing about sports period. Plus people can vote multiple times. It has nothing to do with talent. People vote for recognizble players or popular ones.
