why do they feel the need to show history or historical figures in a different light than they actually happened or existed.

like for instance, braveheart.

they show william wallace as this great warrior, and like as if he was all good. fair enough, he did do alot of good. but he was a brutal and, practically a vicious psychopath, he was also a cannibal. again, i'm not putting the guy down, he did what he felt he had to do.

but why do hollywood miss out points like that, surely these points would of made the character more true to life, and believable.

mel gibson says in an interview on the 2 disc dvd of braveheart that wallace had a rep for skinning some of the people he faught.

yet they don't even hint at any of this in the movie?

even if that had of shown gibson with some blood around his mouth, you'd realise what he had been doing.

another example is all these western films who show native americans as savages, when they couldnt of been that savage, or they wouldnt of survived so long.

Well, put simply, it's Hollywood. It's a dramtization of things that happened, and based loosely on real events. Real life is not good enough, or spicy enough for the big screen.

Besides, the directors/screenwriters have to make the story interesting and the viewers love the characters. That is kind of difficult when the hero is a cannibal.

Another example of this is all of the movies made about King Arthur. Definitely not based upon history, however, it inspires peopole and that's why they like them.

Had William Wallace been shown for what he truly was, then it wouldn't have been as popular of a movie. People don't go see movies for a depiction of real life, they go to get away from real life.

It's just how our society is.

hey since when did movies become accurate? Tell it to the scriptwriter who does strange plots to make the movie more appealing.
