Clean up around the space you want to plant in, and just toss in the seeds.

Do you want annual wildflowers or perennial wildflowers? If you want perennials, do you want spring shady wildflowers or summer-fall sunny wildflowers?
The ephemereal spring perennial wildflowers must genearally be bought as bulbs or roots and planted that way. Order them by mail, or off the web, and plant them in an area that gets sun in the spring, up until early April, and then shade for the rest of the year. Make sure the soil does not dry out thoroughly during the summer and fall. Use alot of leaf mold, compost, or other organic matter and incorporate it into the soil.
The summer-fall sun perennial wildflowers may be planted as seed in the fall or as plants in the spring. For either way, do not till or fertilize your soil. This will discourage weeds. Just "groove" it with a verticutter or a slice-seeder and seed the area in fall. Installing the actual perennial plants yourself will guarantee much better success ratios, but purchasing the plants can get expensive.
Annual wildflowers make the best display but require reseeding every year. They too like sun. Do not till or amend this soil either; use the verticutter or slice-seeder. They do best sown in the spring, because many types are not hardy.
Wildflower gardens are advertised as the easiest and cheapest garden type. In reality, they are the most difficult type of garden. And the cheaper you go, the harder and less likely it will be that there will be any success at all for you to enjoy.

Just about any store that sells seeds will sell a wildflower seed mix. Weed and till the area you wish to plant in. Sprinkle the wildflower mix all over, and cover with about 1/4" of top soil. Then, naturally, keep it watered. Best time to plant will most likely be listed on the seed packaging, and of course, may vary depending on the climate in your area.

here is the problem if you don't clean the area you want to start a wildflower garden.....I live in Texas where bluebonnets are beautiful, but if we throw the seed without cleaning up first, then the weeds become as high or higher than the flowers....once the wildflowers start to come up you can't mow until they all quit blooming. In the pastures, it doesn't matter, but closer to home, it really matters that the weeds get so high the rattlesnakes have parties together!

It depends on what you mean by wildflowers, because most locally growing 'wildflowers' are considered weeds.

you could purchase a can of blended wild flower seeds at maximum homestead centers or backyard shops for little or no money. shop on with the guidelines on the kit for planting and you will have loads of colour. For different plant life purchase small perrenials. they gets larger and extra helpful each and every 365 days. Fall is a good time to purchase them considering the fact which you're able to plant, and that they are going to be on sale.
