I feel for you. Driving really is a feeling of freedom and independence. It would be a tough thing to give up..............but I'm so glad you did. Too many people on the road are not safe, and too many wait to give up driving until it is too late and they have harmed themselves.......or worse yet..........someone else. I hope no one was hurt when you drove into the rear of that vehicle.
Have you seen a doctor for your condition? I do hope you will seek treatment if you haven't already. Maybe there is something they can do to control it so you don't have to depend on public transportation forever.
But..........since you can't drive anymore, thank goodness for public transportation! It is better than being totally stuck! And, if you go with walking or bicycling, you'll have the added bonus of getting into really great shape! And since you can't just jump in the car and go anymore, make a point to start hosting more. Invite your friends and family over frequently. And hey...........they will probably even offer to drive to go out somewhere sometimes! :)
Hang in there............you will do just fine! :)

You did not mention the reason for losing control of yourself while driving. If is because of a treatable medical condition then this hiatus from driving will allow you to get help and treatment. If you have accidents because of poor driving habits you can use this time to study how to be a better driver, which may include hiring a driving school to teach you driving skills. Public transportation is a blessing and you should make use of it to give yourself time to address your situation.

Where I live, the bus company has a special service, 'Dial-a-Bus'. You call a day ahead of time and they pick you up, take you there and take you back. You have to get your doctor to fill out a form to send to the bus company that says you can't walk very far. Sounds like you would qualify, what if you blanked out while crossing the street and a bus driver didn't see you?

Sounds like we're better having you off the streets - if your loss of control is DUI related you belong in jail. The CONSEQUENCES of your actions caused your loss of freedom so be accountable and suck up the need to start using public transit.
