well, the truth is, riku was the original keyblade wielder. but because he chose to embrace the darkness, the keyblade chose sora instead. hope this info will clear ur confusion. ^_^V

Riku was teh original person that the Keyblade chose. Sora was only the "delivery boy". However when Riku chose darkness instead of light the keblade rechose Sora.
It's not the only Keblade, In KH1 King Mickey can be seen using a keeblade, and in Kingdom Hearts 2 Riku and Kiari weild keblades.

well it was going to pick Riku (read ur journal and go to characters and pick riku, but only if u beat ansem in riku's body already) but he went to the darkside
but it chose sora instead because he was purest of heart and it needed someone fast...good thing though

It is explain why in the game. The reason is that he is ful of light and is strong enough to defeat the heartless.
