Hang in there baby things will get better, No I'm kidding. If the person is serious try to calmly talk some sense into them but do it in a way that won't make them angry and make it worse. Remind them that you love them and you'd be devasted and of all the loved ones they'd be hurting and leaving behind. Give them reasons why they should live. Make he/she feel needed.

1/ Is the other end of the rope tied to anything?
2/ Is the rope very long?
3/ Did they get a knots badge when they were in the scouts/guides.
4/ Try the English remedy and ask if they would like a cup of tea

When I see them I shout their name. When they see me and threaten to jump, I shout no.
If they do jump, I'm going to rush over and grab them... the drop isn't long enough for them to break their neck... fingers crossed... the book I read about Albert Pierrepoint suggests a much longer drop is needed, of course, it could be one of my petite friends... and I can get my little pocket knife out, and try to cut the rope with my free hand... now, if they don't jump, I'm going to try to talk them down, but I have the option I described above... lost one friend to suicide, I won't let it happen again.

As a matter of fact- I do love Cancers. They make it pretty hard not to love them. Cancers work hard and are good at saving money. They are real and emotional and usually really nice. I feel terrible when I hurt their feelings because it makes me feel like I have beaten a small child! I always did want a Cancerian child- not to beat them, Heavens no- but because they love their mothers a lot! This is because they are ruled by the moon. Cancer people are great!

I would probably tell that person "That's really smart. How do you know the beam is going to support you? What happens if you jump and the beam breaks? What happens if you jump and your neck doesn't break immediately? You will choke slowly. This is not the best way to do it." Hopefully the person will start feeling like an idiot and remove the noose.

Say I won't come near you. Then tell them the horrors of dying by hanging in this way. They won't die quick it will be slow. That will probably put them off. Tell them not to do anything hasty, to talk things through, and give them as much support and love as is possible.

Then just act casual,if they are tying to invoke a reaction but doing something like that you need to sub-dew whats going on and talk them down, the more you fuss and yell the more risk of them doing something.
