Plants can tolerate varying amounts of sunlight, although they all need some amount of sunlight. Some plants like FULL sun, which for many ferns would be like living in a frying pan. Others, like azaleas, like part shade. Ferns like a higher amount of shade than most would tolerate, and some kinds of fern thrive in the deepest shade.
Do some research on the type of plant before deciding what to buy, and place them where the sunlight (microclimate is the term currently used) is appropriate.

I am fairly certain ferns do best in shade. They are a forest plant, so too much sunlight will eventually kill them. Also, the need to stay moist (shade helps them retain the moisture).

Yes they prefer shade and humidity or rather they grow best in shade and high humidity that is why you find them in plenty wet forest or evergreen forest. They are beautiful and i have lots of them. I use them to know whether the climate and environment is okay for my other plants, they are like live indicators. I feel very happy to see them grow healthy .

Ferns like filtered light not full sun and a little full sun is ok as long as it is morning or evening and not the heat of the day. They like moist well drained soil and lots of humus and organic materials and acidic soil.

Ferns also like humidity, so in or by your bathroom always works great for them.
