I've taught and been an administrator in both, and to be honest...I would say - Charter Schools. Private schools offer a lower Student-teacher-ratio. But, often times the teachers are NOT adequately qualified (you should really check into that), and are paid less than most public school teachers (didn't seem possible!), but many of the academic and social problems seem to be the same. Private school students (and parents) just have more "means" of getting things done (both good and bad)
Public schools sometimes have more student per teacher and less academic options for students. In larger schools, it's often the very bright or very naughty students that are known and get the most attention by the teachers and administrators...unfortunately, all the other students just "blend".
Charter schools can give you the private school feel at at public school price (free). The schools are often specialized in academic or learning philosophies, and it seems that most teachers in charter schools are innovative risk takers, (not followers, but leaders). If you are looking to enroll your child or work in education, I would suggest you explore all 3 options.

I have taught at both. The differences are not great. If you are an excellent student then your chance at college is equal. If you are an A-B student then again, your chances are the same.
In public schools drugs are prevalent. The same is true in private schools; the kids usually have plenty of money to buy them. The difference is that sometimes there is also money to cover it up.
In public schools kids are encouraged by their friends to fight. In private schools they talk each other down saying "It's not worth it. You'll get suspended. Stop." If you are not a kid who fights then you don't have to worry about it.
In public schools there are often more students and therefore more options for electives. In private schools the requirements for math and science are often greater so you are forced to take "academic" courses rather than art and home economics. This could be something that helps you where college is concerned.
All in all you can get a great education no matter which you choose.

Well if your thinking of going to Public or Private. Research into the schools and decide what's best for you.
I've been in public schools my whole life and it truly depends on the school and the people. I went to a pretty "okay" school but I feel as if I've learned very little because i had to deal with snotty kids. Now I'm in high school in a different town and it's the worse school in my state and it's true. Tuition is usually 70-100$ dollars
I know for a fact that my friend goes to a private school and she's a smart, straight A student. She has to wear 200$ uniforms and her books are about 500$, plus her tuition is 8k a year. She's not exactly rich so they take out loans and truthfully she tells me she's pressured to get good grades so her parents money won't go to waste. Her school has very high standards as well as her previous school but , she used to be in a public school but her mother pulled her out in the 4th grade for a better education.

Private = better education, less social interaction, more expensive
Public = more social interaction with everyday average kids and adults thus teaching better people skills, worse education, less expensive
