Is there a computer program that I can use to create/arrange studio quality music without actually playing an instrument? I want to create professional sounding music to put behind lyrics I have written.

All modern music is made on a computer. Its called a DAW. The main ones are pro-tools, Logic, Digital proformer, Cubase, Sonar and ableton live.

All you need is about 10+ years of studio experience with a college degree in recording and music techonology before you can make it sound semi-professional.

99% of "musicians" you see on TV and the radio don't play an instrument. there is a sound engineer, a producer and a composer writing all their music and they are marketing that "musician" to sell their music.

If you plan on being a composer you should start off with a quality education in music theory, arranging, orchestration, counterpoint, SATB, and modern music like jazz and rock.

but there are video game like production programs like fruity loops, reason, garage band and the like that have preset music that you just arrange like its your own. It all sounds the same but its like playing a video game so alot of people can get the hang of it pretty quickly.

With all the fine details that can go into making studio quality music I don't think there's any feasable way to duplicate the whole process; using a cmputer program would be crazy and extremely time consuming as the details would have to be inserted yourself. I'm sure there are programs out there that let you do it but it's not like actually going in to a studio and recording.

The human voice is an instrument by itself, however it does not have reliable pitch without training and using another instrument as a guide. Most singers learn guitar or piano because the reliable pitch of the instrument keeps them in tune and helps them understand note intervals, note values, and rhythm found in sheet music. You can try to learn without playing an instrument, but you are limiting yourself unnecessarily.

Yes, I've been using NoteWorthy for a few years now and I haven't found one thing that I could want that it dosen't have besides a tabs editor for guitar.
It allows you to add as many different instruments as you want and still play them together.
You can download it free, but after about 30 saves I think it makes you delete 1 to add another until you buy it. But i've been using it on my new computer without paing for it so it'll be OK.

yeah, Garage band is a program you could get for your computer, but it's not all that 'professional' sounding. you might want to consider finale notepad. its a program you can download for free. or you can bite the bullet and make a band...

you can even record voices.
i don't really have an apple computer, but i did this in music class at my school. my teacher told me this stuff.
