I agree with you. You can't smoke in a bar or restaurant here in Colorado, but you can drink in that same bar, get in your car and drive home and people think that's normal. Go figure.

No competition here... they are both noxious habits that take lives unnecessarily... anyone who has a parent who smokes will vouch to feeling stuff like angry, hopeless, heartbroken, indifferent, worried, frustrated, disgusted, ill-- these are not legacies that we set out to leave our kids. Smoke actually clings to clothes and exacerbates respiratory problems in children and others. Nonsmoking adults also contract diseases when around smoking adults (my two little grandmothers being cases in point, neither one of them having smoked a puff in their lives, but both married to smokers). I'm a former smoker myself, so I know that denial can run thick and long when it comes to taking responsibility for this air-polluting death march. I am not keen on drunkenness either-- often seems like the two go hand-in-glove. I agree that if I saw a drunk getting into a car to drive away that it would be my responsibility as a citizen to report him/her. I don't see this because I don't live around any drunks. Just my 2 cents!

You can make 2007 your year to turn your health around-- God bless!

first of all people who don't smoke around children and try to prevent second hand smoking are doing well thats a good start. ill tell why sooo many people are against smoking instead of drinking. one reason is because smoking kills you SLOWLY which mean you have the chance to stop and start new but some take that oppurtunity for granteed. smoking kills more people than drunken drivers, aids sucide combined.. think about that when u light up a cigarett. one time i watched a video in health class. which affected me sooo much. a model worked for a smoke company and when he realized that it wasn't a great thing to do he stoped and went around telling teens about it and stuff. he said i asked the company owners why don't u smoke since you run a smoking comany and all. and heres what they answered. they said because were are not stupid, black , young or poor.So basically there saying people who smoke are stupid black(because black people tend to smoke more), young cuz there following their friends and don't know whats good for them or poor.i know what u mean and all when u get addicted u can't stop easily but u atleast can stop. And one more thing is if youve been smoking since you were a teen then by the time your 20 your going to look like your mom's age. and by the time your 40 your going to look like your grandma. yes drunk drivers are bad and all but its a instant death rite there. but smoking takes the taste out of life it kills you slowly and painfully...............

Your absolutely right as long as you are not around people that don't smoke. They get offended because having the smell from cigarettes and smoke in their lungs is something they have not chosen to do. I'm guessing the reason nobody is saying anything to the drunks is because they are drinking too and don't care. As a general rule though, people that drink and drive are not looked upon any nicer than you are.

I think both issues are cause for concern. I don't think you are being picked on it's just smoking is tacky, and unhealthy. Just because it does not kill as many as drunk drivers do, make no mistake it will kill you and it does not matter if you smoke alone, outside- inside, beside or away from whoever, the impact on your health is very much there.

Because the government is already making their money on Alcohol and drug abuse, so picking on people who are just smokeing a simple cigarette, they get millions of dollars in kick-baks and acting like their doing the right thing for the people. but in fact over one-half of them smoke and driink and drive at the same time

My sister caught me smoking once I used to be 13. She told my mom. My mom wasn't completely satisfied and made me eliminate the fags and she or he made me rise up relatively early on a Saturday and made me smooth the entire condominium and did not allow me to go out for like months. She under no circumstances caught me consuming, but I got under the influence of alcohol for the primary time once I used to be 15!

I dunno......I guess that it is more socially acceptable to die at the hands of a drunk driver that to die from that evil secondhand smoke or firsthand by that matter!

Both are bad but second hand smoke is especially irritating.
