I'm fairly sure that the 75¢ increase is only on the minimum wage, if you already are getting paid more than that, you don't get more. You just have to make at least minimum wage.

The increased minimum wage was approved by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on September 12 when he signed into law Assembly bill 1835 (Lieber), which increases the minimum wage in two phases. On Jan. 1, 2007 the minimum wage jumps from $6.75 to $7.50 per hour, and on Jan. 1, 2008 the minimum wage increases to $8.00 per hour.
Since you already make more than the new minimum wage he is not required to raise your hourly rate. He just can't pay you any less than $7.50. Check out the website below for more info.

i live in california too. They have that new law that in like a couple months they raise the minimum wage to 8 dollars. Currently ur making above minimum wage. If this was anyone else that was not related to you, then i would say that they are an greedy asss for doing this, but this is ur dad. U should either get another job, but this will make for an uncomfortable between u and ur dad, or keep this one.

Okay a minim wage is standardized by the federal government
Yet a wage increase is based solely on your job performance and and any company policies.
So technically- you may never get an increase in pay if the company or your father deems so.

Your job is worth what your company says it is worth.
Do you think they'd have any problem filling "your" job at the rate you are paid if you quit? If you want more money, you must demonstrate that you are either
1) bringing in more revenue to the company than others doing your same job
2) You are saving the company money by virtue of your efficiency, quantity of work, or other means
3) that you are shouldering more responsibility than your job calls for.
Working with your Dad complicates the employer/employee relationship. You're free to go to "Mc Dees" for that extra 50 cents an hour. Be prepared to work for people who CAN fire you if you don't cut it there. I doubt your Dad would fire you if you burned the pace down.

No you are not entitled to a wage increase. You already make more than minimum.

If you already earn more than the new minimum wage ($8.75) there is no legal obligation to give you a raise.

If it's above legal minimum wage, it's totally his call. Look for other employment.
