When you draw the dolls, make sure their hands go all the way to the folded edge of the paper, and do not cut through the folded edge where their hands are. If you do, you will have a bunch of individual dolls, not a chain.

Accordion-fold your paper, making its width exactly as wide as you need for the whole figure side to side... height of the paper doesn't matter as much, as long as its at least as tall as you want the paperdolls to be heightwise .

Then draw the figure on the topmost sheet of the stack, but be sure to make the ends of its arms (or hands) extend all the way to both sides of the paper (... so when looking at the topmost paper, one hand or arm end will fall on the fold, the other will fall on the open end of the topmost paper). Make the end areas of the hands or arms "tall" enough to connect well to the next figure so the figures will stay together when you open the accordion folded paper to see your connected figures.
