What reasons make you think Detroit in particular, but michigan in general,is a crappy place?

The place is a cultural wasteland...People were still wearing mullets here about two years ago...
The weather sucks in the summer due to the humidity,
The weather sucks in the winter due to the cold, although this year its been pretty good.
IF it weren't for auto industry jobs, this place would still be a big corn field.
There really isnt a good reason for detroit to exsist anymore.
A lack of leadership with vision has meant the city just continues to go down the tubes.
The previous mayor archer was doing a good job, but the blacks called him a sell out because he was trying to turn the city around, and forced him out.

What makes this state/city a crappy place? Gee, the list is so long; where do I start? Here are several main points:
Detroit is a dirty, racist city with zero amenities. This city doesn't have anything to offer except some sporting events, 3 pathetic casinos, and a couple of bars. Even hotels here are shameful. Almost all of the classy hotels are outside of the city.
Detroit doesn't have any public transportation, the tax rates are high, the homeless are always begging, nowhere to park, no tourist attractions, the zoo is practically broke, zero shopping attractions and there aren't any jobs. Crime, cars and obesity are what we are known for.
Michiganians have poor attitudes and corrupt leaders who have destroyed our economy, quality of life and our livelyhood.

Michigan also has an extremely poor education system, including colleges. Teachers are on strike every year for decades, inequality (affirmative action) dominates a college education, and the taxpayers are paying district debts that are over 20 years old. The schools never have enough money and neither do the communities. I can't remember the last time I voted without a millage asking for money toward one or both of the previous.

It will take decades to recover from the corruption, poor economy and racism.

That pretty well covers some of the obvious problems.

Been a industrial type of area (Detroit and SE Michigan) for a LONNNG time, lot of old closed up auto factories, never dawned on anyone to tear them down and start over inthe same spot, noooo, just abandon them and start somewhere a few miles away. Or now in Mexico or Canada. MOST of Michigan is very nice. Detroit and area has very bad crime rating too.

The temperature is always wrong for the season,its boring, and the people in some particular areas aren't that nice. I feel as if we have a lot of pollution, and the roads never get clean, theres always trash everywhere.Some cities actually aren't that bad. I wouldn't call michigan a crappy place, its just not one of the more desirable places to be.

Detroit is a tired old city that has not rebuilt to its maximum capacity
they need to tear down the unfix-able , sell the lot cheap and offer financing to builders/buyers
I say the city will rebound within the next 10-15 years OR it will be empty except for the sporting arenas, bars, restaurants

detroit stinks!! but michigan in general is a beautiful state.

yes it's cold but that's only for about 4 months. if you travel the lakes and see the beaches and lighthouses, you'll love michigan.

if you are a history buff then michigan is your place. it's got everything from underground railroad houses to mafia links during prohibition. not to mention, the underground salt mines in detroit.

I live outside of Detroit, and the rest of Michigan is beautiful. There's a huge economic crisis going on right now with the car industry and gas prices, so the state's not doing too good.

Detroit isn't well-kept.

BORN IN DETROIT, RAISED IN MICHIGAN....detroit really really sucks....too much crime, worst school systems (teachers strike every year as far back as i can remember). highest foreclosure rate in the usa (lots of vacant bldgs and houses here) highest unemployment rate here also (leads to drug abuse and alcohol use). cost of living is way too high for what you get (usually not much unless youre arabic -- not to sound biased). too much racism ( michigan is the most segregated state in the usa (google this for verification). college cost way too much (statistics show what we arent the smartest tho). too much racial profiling ( all races including white) ... most kids here aspire to become a drug dealer or a rapper (just ask them -- the truth shall set you free -- lol). unless you can afford to live in north oakland county, stay away (if you cant afford to live in north oakland county, dont joy ride or visit there or more than likely they will find a reason to lock you up (check the stats) overall this place sucks and should be limited to only people who gross in excess of 150k......everybody else should move away until they change a few laws and give this rat hole a new name .... HMMMM HOW ABOUT FESTIVUS TOWN ....... HMMMMMM

Detroit is as bad as people make it out....it does have a way to go to become a major contender....the same goes for the state....We need to rely less on the auto industry so our economy can be more stable

Lack of jobs, high crime,abandoned buildings, . .
The northern part of the state the UP is the most beautiful country.
