my dad and i scuba dive (hes an instructor) and he personally likes diving in lakes and flooded coreys. I think it would be good to dive in a underwater mine...if you have any expierience please tell me and where you went, i would love to do that with my dad. I recently got my certification (4 months ago at the age of 12) and want to find a place to go with my dad.

I would recommend that you gain experience with open water diving first. Getting comfortable with your equipment, skills (like bouyancy control), and handling unexpected situations is very important before you progress to more extreme forms of diving.

Diving in areas that are enclosed or farther than the light zone takes additional training and certification. For instance, PADI offers both Wreck diving and Cavern diving certifications to teach the additional skills and introduce some specialized equipment to handle these more dangerous types of diving.

Once you have your basic open water skills down, then you should ask your father about progressing through some of the other certifications when you're ready. For now, enjoy learning your sport and try out some good Caribbean or Pacific diving spots when you get the chance.

Congratulations on the certification! You'll enjoy your new sport.

Well, if your dad is an instructor hopefully he will have enough sense to not take you into a mine or cave until you have more experience and training. If you don't know what you are doing (and even if you do) cave diving is very dangerous. Remember, you have a limited amount of air and you are in a place where you can't just "go up" if something goes wrong. Spelunking is dangerous enough when you are above water. You can get lost, you can get stuck, stuff falls on you, etc. Don't even think of attempting it until you have a few more years of experience, you have taking the advanced classes and are with someone who has done it several times before.

I agree with Kevin and Ohhdear, you must have a little more experience before you attempt this.

Try going after an Advanced certification and then try taking Cavern Diving, this will give you a better idea and preparation for what your up against.

Congratulation on entering the world of diving and hope you follow your fathers footsteps.

Kevin's answer is right on the money.

Get your experience slowly and ease into new, more challenging situations gradually. Your dad won't take you places you're not prepared to handle if he's a responsible instructor.

Flooded mines are some of the most hazardous places to go. You can get disoriented and lost and run out of air before you know it. Nothing is stable down there and you can get snagged on abandoned machinery and broken beams.

Diving's a great family sport, and you're lucky to have your dad for your dive buddy!

That is about the most dangerous crazy thing I can think of.

Walls and ceilings of old mines are notoriously unstable and are prone to cave in at any time. My advice: Don't do it.
