If you have the latest ipod firmware(system software) and the pc you are going to connect has itunes 7 then it wont erase
But the older versions tends to erase and update that pc's music library but it will ask you before doing it and you cant add music in the older versions too but in the newer itunes u can add :)

With Itunes 7 you can maintain many libraries, just connect it to a computer and drag and drop it to the ipod but you cant copy 2 different lists

It depends - there are two ways to manage the music on your iPod. Automatically and Manually.

Automatically is whereby when you plug your iPod into a computer it looks at the music library on the computer and the music on the iPod, and adds or delete's songs as neccessary so that the iPod library mirrors the one on iTunes. This is the default option - unless you've turned this off then this will be what happens. With this option, when you plug your iPod into a different computer you will lose all your music.

The second option is to manage your music manually. With this option, you have to drag and drop the music you want onto your iPod. If you want to use this option, open up iTunes 7 with your iPod plugged in (on the original computer you used to put music on the iPod), on the main iPod screen there is an option near the bottom to "Manually manage music". Obviously, tick that.

Once you've done that you are able to plug your iPod into other computers without effecting the music on your iPod.
