(-5/6)x + 2 = 5
(-5/6)x = 3
-5x = 18
x = -18/5
x = -3.6

I'm not sure how you got 4, but that's how you do it.

If the question is -5/6x + 2 = 5, then subtract 2 from both sides to get -5/6x = 3, then cross multiply the 6x and the 3 to get -5 =18x, then divide both sides by 18 to get -5/18 = x
If the question is -5/6 (x + 2) = 5, then multiply both sides by the -6/5 (because its the reciprocal). Then you'd get (x +2) = -6, then subtract 2 from both sides and you get x = -8

you didnt write the question very clearly

-5/6(x+2)=5, then the answer would be -8. first distribute the -5/6 and then solve for x

-5/6x+2=5 then the answer is -18/5. just subtract 2 then divide by -5/6

Where are there brackets?

-5/(6x) + 2 = 5
(-5/6)*(x + 2) = 5
-5/(6*(x + 2)) = 5
etc. etc.

x will always be negative
