Born in the USA is not a patriotic song. Sorry to tell you that. I like the song, but it is not about what you think.
It is about the hardships of people returning from the war and how jobs are being lost to the big man. Look at the album cover. Bruce is depicting himself peeing on the flag.

american soldier...by the way, 'where were you when the world stopped turning' was written and recorded by alan jackson...i can do without 'god bless the u.s.a.' by lee greenwood...it's not the sentiment, it's the extremely lame lyrics and the fact that it's been so overplayed...if you're into the 'defiant american' attitude, then 'courtesy of the red white and blue' is THE song...much better than any of the illiterate trailer-park crap charlie daniels has inflicted upon us...the taliban song is also a good fun one in the defiant american mode

I agree with you about Proud To Be an American. When 9-11 hit, it seemed to be the song that said what most of us felt. An honorable metion would be 'In America' by Charlie Daniels. It's somewhat dated (written during the cold war when Russia was our biggest threat), but describes America as a force to be reckoned with.

I like American Soldier by Toby Keith because its about all the sacrifices they make from day to day, whether at war or not, and is a great tribute to the men and women who keep our country free.
